I've been reading through the posts and now I'm more confused than when I started.

Earlier this week we were walking through MK and one of the DVC guys stopped us. He said we could buy into DVC right now for about $12,000 and there are deals out there to get 2 for the price of 1 points, 300 points for around $12,000. Does anyone know what he was talking about? We were there for a short trip and didn't have time to go check it out.

wow that would be $40 per point

Not sure what he may have been talking about but when you buy from Disney you do get 2 years worth of points available to use. So I guess technically it could be considered a 2 for 1, but it really isn't. My confusion starts with the price, at $12,000 for 150 points that would be $80 a point. At that price you may have luck buying on the resale market but not direct from Disney. Disney's price per point generally starts in the high $90 for sold out resorts. That being said if Disney is selling something at $80 it would be a good deal....:)

I don't think they mean getting a 300 point contract for $12K. More likely they were referring to getting an extra year's worth of points when you purchase. So you would still have (for example) a 160 point contract, but they might give you two years' worth of points to use upon purchase. That is pretty common, not a special deal.

$12,000 for a typical 160 point initial purchase is $75. Still a ridiculously low amount and I doubt that's what was really being said. The price of BLT was just raised to $120 or $130 (can't remember). More likely that he was talking about a 100 point purchase if they are still allowing that for new purchasers @ $120/point.

I think they were not properly explaining it to you (big surprise - a salesperson!) or you didn't understand it exactly.

My best guess is...
-> 100 point contract at $120/point
-> Assume Feb UY and the "2-for-1" is for current 2010 points
-> By banking the 2010 points, you'd have access to 300 points on Feb 1, 2011 (by borrowing)

So, that would give you your "300 points for $12,000"....but obviously there is a lot more to it than that;).

wow, they're starting to sound like car salesman. They should changed their wording... I jump right in for 300pts at $12k.

Sounds like the ASA (Advanced Sales Associate) was giving you a lot of information. Their job is to get people to go on the tour so doesn't surprise me they were throwing out a lot of information quickly.

Disney has different incentives seems like all the time now. You can also call and do a presentation over the phone and you can get the current incentives at that time.

Of course, if you choose to buy resale then the price is going to be whatever you negotiate with a particular seller. With The Timeshare Store, Inc.® you can always make an offer and the associate will present that offer to the seller and they will either accept, counter or they might be firm at their price.

That sounds like a reasonable explanation.

This person got off a DCL and was offered HHI or VB at $80 per point.
I wonder if DVC is offering the same thing to the OP?

HHI has actually been at $80 for a while now. I spoke to my guide several months ago (around April?) and that was the price she gave me at that time. She did not indicate it was a special or anything, just that they've "lowered the price".
