Current/anticipated covid restrictions?

Does anyone have an idea if more restrictions are expected in Hawaii and what they might be?

We’re booked for Maui at the end of the month, and we were about to book at Honua Kai; but, the pools/beach are a big reason choosing this resort. If pools are closed we’d prefer to save money and stay elsewhere, and if beaches are closed we’d likely cancel the trip… (I have not heard that either of these things are expected to happen, I am just trying to consider all possibilities)

I know nobody has a crystal ball, but I’m curious what Hawaii restrictions looked like in the past and what people think we should anticipate in the next several weeks.

We are already on “plan c” (but a lovely plan c!!) for this trip, after a cancelled cruise then we just cancelled a Mexico trip for this same week, so I feel like I’m constantly in “pivot mode”…

Here is helpful info from the Hawaii DOH.. Their restrictions haven't changed much over the last few months. They have a goal of removing restrictions once they hit 70% of the population fully vaccinated (but who knows if that will change).

Restrictions will be announced by the end of the week.

Restrictions will likely be on social gatherings such as birthday parties, family events, church socials, etc. Gov. Ige has expressed that he is reluctant to impose restrictions that impact businesses.

There is a chance the the vaccine exemption will be repealed and everyone (except small children) will be to test again.

I highly, highly doubt the beaches, parks, and hiking trails will be closed in the next month or two (or probably ever again). My best guess is that the worst likely scenario will be restaurant capacity restrictions, bars and karaoke lounges may be forced to close, and businesses may start to get stricter with their social distancing.

Thanks! I think I read something like this yesterday they got me wondering about pools / beaches. We have kiddos between 5-11 that will have to test regardless, but I will keep an eye on the entry requirements.

I emailed the agency we may book through and they offered a similar sentiment of not expecting new restrictions to impact pools, beaches, etc. So, fingers crossed things calm down a bit and restrictions are manageable.

Thanks! We will be exploring in our own and hopefully enjoying lots of beach/outdoor time. I already expected restaurants to be an issue, so we’ll likely stick mostly to quick serve and cooking in the condo (often easier with the kids anyways .

I guess we knew something was coming..
I wonder what will happen to all the reservations I made at Makahiki and on Open table…also I wonder if this impacts the luau?

We are canceling our planned family trip that was supposed to happen in 2 weeks. The luaus are closed, restaurants are now down to 50% capacity, reservations are being cancelled, and Waikiki is packed with people right now. I imagine that will change as new restrictions were just announced, but I don’t want to go if restaurants are closed and/or limited, as well as other attractions closed. We are just going to push the trip out a little bit.

Aulani’s luau is still being held under the new protocols and the restaurant’s there will still be honoring their reservations. I just spoke to the resort and the company that runs the luau.

Currently they are at 50% but expected to drop further if the numbers keep climbing

I don’t believe there’s been a single recorded case of transmission in a restaurant, but let’s go to 10% capacity out of an abundance of caution.
