For purchases in Port in the Bahamas and Castaway Cay what currency do they accept. I'll assume not Canadian, but do they take American or is Credit cards the way to go?

In the Bahamas I use US dollars. Credit card abuse is too prevalent. On Castaway Kay you will use your DCL card.

I agree with cash. Credit card fraud is a major issue, so I avoid having to use it in many foreign ports. If I know I will be doing shopping (like I did in Columbia) I estimate how much I am going to spend and get that in the local currency from my bank. Its a lot easier to use local currency than to try and negotiate exchange rates and then get correct change back. Its almost like you lose twice. They round in their favor when converting your money for the transaction and then when giving back the change, they again round in their favor.

I agree about card fraud being prevalent. We have travelled the world, including the Middle East and many European countries without a problem - then as soon as I hit the US I get stung twice in 3 weeks. In the past we have used TC and cash but this time my wife and I used preloaded travel cards, one of which got completely decimated while we were on our cruise. I have never seen such lapse security than I have in the US and in 3 weeks can count on one hand the amount of times I was asked for either a PIN number or signature. Most of the time the card was swiped and just handed back with the receipt.
