My daughter has a head full of ringlets! This is her hair air-dried, 100% natural.

We have an appointment for her first hair cut (really!) at Harmony Barbershop and they say to arrive with your hair clean and brushed out... however, it only stays untangled for about 30 minutes after it dries. When I asked about it during the appointment they said "Oh we'll figure it out" but I'm still concerned. Should I bring her to a bathroom, wet and comb out her hair while waiting for her haircut appointment time?

Also, anyone have experience at BBB and their hairstyles with curly hair? Should I bring detangler spray and brush all the tangles out immediately before her appointment?

Thanks for any and all advice!

My neice has very similar hair (if not with tighter ringlets) that is about 4-5 inches longer than your DD's and BBB had no issues with her hair when I took her. I was shocked! I think they see it all the time though. I wouldn't worry. She went with her hair just how it was after 5 ish hours in the park, we had just put it into a braid that morning.

Excellent! That is very relieving; thank you!!

DD's hair gets tighter and "loses" about 2-3" to chin length if she is running around playing and sweating, or exposed to any humidity, but is mid-back when wet in the bath tub! She wants long hair so badly so we're just doing a trim at Harmony. :)

We had our daughter's first haircut at Harmony. Her curls aren't as tight as your daughters, but they brushed it out and trimmed it no problem. They just don't want giant mats or dirty hair.

They did the same at BBB. My daughter got the slicked back bun look. Within an hour, her curls started popping up, but it was still cute.

A little off topic...my DD has curly hair like this. She is 14 almost 15. The best thing I ever did was take her to get a Deva haircut. Her hair is so amazing now. No brushing (finger combing only), special dry cut, etc. google it and find a stylist near you. It really taught her not to hate her hair. (I have stick straight, fine hair so no clue about curly hair!)

I hope your daughter loves BBB!

I don't want to scare you, but my daughter has curly hair and the barber shop butchered her hair. I was like cut seriously the tiniest bit off just so she could get her hair cut like her little sister. The lady had literally no idea how to cut curly hair even being told to barely cut anything.

BBB had no issues but some curls did pop out throughout the day. I had hairspray in my bag and just keep spraying more on to contain those curls.

IMG_5196.JPG Your daughter's hair is gorgeous! My daughter has the same type of curls and we had no issues with her hair at BBB. The morning of her appointment, I combed/brushed (we use a denman brush) her hair back with some leave in conditioner. I then placed it into a single braid and it stayed flat on the top and the bottom remained curly, but loosely curled. When we arrived at BBB, I took her braid out while she was getting dressed and it stayed flat ( no humidity) till she got into her FGMIT's chair :) They used a comb to gently release the bottom curls and her hair was not frazzled or anything. Here are a few pictures of the process. It even held up till the next day :)

Wonderful! Were you satisfied with the hair cut? I'm a bit scared because of @RachaelA 's post!

I will definitely look into that, thank you! :)

Okay--I am scared! :scared: lol! Maybe I'll let them snip the tiniest tiniest bit off the very ends just for the momentous occasion.... I am seriously questioning it now, though...

I think your idea for detangler and a brush out just prior is brilliant!
Post after photos!

I think the big issue was when you wet my daughter's hair and brush it, even wet its still curly. So then it wasn't even so the lady was clueless. I had another kid getting her hair cut at the same time (straight hair. got a great cut!).

This is my daughter's hair.

BBB seriously though did a great job with it.

Can't give you much advice on the barber shop but I can tell you BBB was no problem!!!

I didn't think it was going to work much less stay but... It did :)

Here she is "regular"

And here after BBB and then again the morning after (she refused to take it out lol)

I kept looking at her wondering who's kid she is as she certainly did NOT look like mine hahhaha

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics - too lazy to upload good ones onto photobucket right now ;)

My 25 yo has super curly hair like that. I think BBB would be fine, but I would NOT go to the Barbershop for her first haircut. My son and husband get a haircut there every time we go, but a stylist really needs to know and understand curly hair to get it right. We have discovered this to be true over the years - not everyone knows how to cut curly hair! I wouldn't risk it.

I would not take her to get her hair cut there. You really need to know what you're doing when you cut hair like that, cut it wrong and the curls go wild. Maybe just do the BBB?

Maybe we just got unlucky but my daughter has stick straight hair and they did not do a good job with her first haircut. It was longer than midback and all they did was trim it but it was horribly uneven. The sides were much shorter than the back. It was just a weird haircut all around.

My daughter is biracial and has very tight curls. For the haircut I would suggest detangling it that morning and then braiding it so it stays untangled and just take the braids out right before you go in for the haircut. BBB did a great job on my daughter's hair. I also detangled it and kept it braided prior to our BBB appointment because I didn't want them trying to detangle her hair while it was dry (it causes a lot of damage). The fairy godmother in training that did her hair was thankful that it was already detangled -- it would have taken her at least twice the time otherwise!

Here's her curls

Here's after BBB (and a down-pour of rain!)

I have no experience with either of those places at WDW, but I do love to see the curly kids! I am partial to it as I have two girls like that too. DD14's can have the tighter curl, similar to OP, DD17 is a bit looser. It sure does take a long time to grow long hair when it takes the scenic route :) My girls have basically been growing it all their lives and are only to mid-back at best. I don't think they have fast-hair growing genes either.

My thought is to comb it wet in the morning and braid loosely to keep tangles away until your appointment.
