OK, so I have two questions about engagement rings. The first one has an actual purpose, the other is just because I am curious. So, first off, can a person wear their engagement ring as their wedding ring? Also, does it HAVE to be a ring? What about a necklace? Or a bracelet? Or a trip to the World? :rotfl2:

my husband wears his engagement ring as his wedding ring. its just a plain white gold ring, when i got my wedding ring made the guy polished DHs ring up and engraved it on the inside like mine. so it started off as an e-ring, now its a wedding ring.
theres no "rules" saying that you have to have an e-ring, its just more of a tradition. of course you could go with something else if you both want to!

I don't see why anyone can't wear their engagement ring as their wedding ring. Especially if the engagement ring isn't a traditional one. If you stick with a traditional ring, she might get asked when is the wedding, or are you engaged as opposed to are you married. If you choose only one ring, I would stick with some sort of band, whether there are diamonds around it or not. Also, as for the engagement ring/gift. I would say stick with something tangible. A trip to the world would be fantastic, but IMHO I think people want to show something as a sign of the engagement. It could be a bracelet, necklace, or even a tiara (I saw a girl who received one for her engagement on "A Wedding Story").

Most of our surgeons get earrings…they cant really wear rings to work…and if they do they have to take them off all the time…don’t know if its just this hospital…but a majority of them do get diamond engagement earrings instead of rings… I think getting a gift is just as cool…

But I’d save the trip for the honeymoon…

It doesn't have to be a ring or even jewelry. My dad gave my mom an engagement present of a sculpture that has been on display in our house ever since. She was very sporty and not that into jewelry, and the sculpture was very meaningful to her.

I always thought I'd want something nontraditional like that, too! And then ring fever set in....sigh... :rotfl:

i used my moms engagement ring(parents divorced) as my wedding ring & we bought a small thin band to go with it....worked out since i dont wear rings that often.

i think its all about what YOU want to represent as your bond/marriage.

Rings happen to be the popular choice...how can a girl say no to diamonds;)

I've been wondering this also...

I love my engagement ring - check out my engagement TR for pics

but its a little nontraditional because it already has two bands and I think three would overdo it -

I was thinking of just getting a plain band, but dont know if it would look right with two diamond bands already, but I would rather wear this ring instead of one plain ring and no engagement ring.

I would also rather get DF a really nice wedding band with some bling instead of getting another ring for me

is this weird?

I honestly see it as another expense because I already love my engagement ring by itself...
