While we were camping last weekend (in NH), I wondered if people who live in Florida ever go to the Fort Wilderness Campground simply as a camping destination and don't go into the parks. :scratchin

I am not a FL resident yet, but my husband are planning to move to the Tampa area within the next two years. We plan to a lot of FW camping once we live down there, but we will also be AP so we'll be going to the parks too.

Two reasons I wouldn't go JUST to camp: 1. I wouldn't pay those prices for a campsite. We tent camp and typically pay $10-$15 per night per site. I would only pay Disney prices to stay go to Disney. 2. FW isn't our idea of camping. We are purists so camping for us involves being outside, cooking over a fire and swimming in a lake. Restaurants, pools, arcades are things our typical campgrounds don't even have. Electricity does not exist and water comes from a pump.

I'm sure there will be many who disagree with me though. If I was a KOA camper I would probably be more inclined.

All the time, we love to just go and relax. We watch the fireworks from the beach at night and enjoy the things to do at the campground

Even though we are not from Fla we go to enjoy the campground also we are going in oct and are splitting our trip we will do some parks and some time just hanging in the campground relaxing

We no longer live in Florida, however, when we did we frequently camped at FW w/o going to the parks. FW is a destination by itself especially at the holidays. We would, spend time on all of the non-park activities or even the the other area attractions.

Camping for 41 years and living in FL for 10. We go to FW to camp and or do the parks. As was previously said FW is it's own entertainment. We love riding our bikes around the loops. We also camp outside of FW and go to the parks. Can't always get a ressie at FW when we decide to go.

I have a cousin who lives on the East Coast of Florida in Melbourne and they are planning a trip to FW in the Spring. No plans for parks. Just another camping destination for them.

We live about an hour and half south of FW and camp there 3-5 times a year. We go into the parks about once every two years or so. Our kids have more fun at the campground and monorail hoping then they do at the parks.

We live in Florida about 2 hours from Disney. We love camping at fort wilderness. We have annual passes so we go to the parks for a couple hours here and there but we spend most of our time just enjoying the camp ground.

We live south of Daytona (about 1 1/2 hrs away) & go several times a year to FW. We go for long weekends & for a week at least 1-2 times a year. We are AP holders so we go into the Parks for a little while some days but some days we just spend @ FW. Before we got the AP we very rarely did the parks. It is just me & my DH.

Yup, count me in a local that goes to FW just to go to FW. I have been blessed enough to be staying their since 1993. ;)

. . . As was previously said FW is it's own entertainment . . .

1) We agree.
2) Lots of times we do resorts and not do parks.
3) We especially love FW for this.
4) Just so much to do - or not to do.
5) Sometimes vegging is just fine.
