how easy is it to book accomodations for non-disney resorts? My H is not such a huge fan of disney, but really liked the idea of the other places you could go to.

But I need to know if it is as easy as the brochure makes it out to be in terms of booking...any small print that I should be aware of?

It will cost you the $95.00 to book, plus the points. I am guessing it is all going to depend on when you are looking on staying. If you want to go during a peak season, it maybe difficult to book. I am unsure if you can book at 11 mos out or not, but I am assuming it is 7 mos out like other resorts that are not your "Home".

Respectfully, if you are not going to use DVC to stay at the DVC resorts,, you should not buy DVC. There are less expensive timeshares that are just as good "traders".

Most will tell you that if you are going to join DVC with the purpose of using the points to book elsewhere, then it is probably not the timeshare for you.

The value comes when booking at DVC resorts. To book elswhere, you will pay the $95.00 fee, as Christa mentioned, and if you have to cancel or change that ressie, you pay another $95.00 fee, as I understand it.

We now trade through RCI and have never used them so I can't answer how easy or hard that woudl be. But my understanding is there are better time share programs out there that are better suited for travel outside WDW.

I'm assuming this does not apply to any Adventures By Disney packages or the Disney Cruise line, yes?

The points that you have to spend to use both of those are not worth it. You can rent the points and use the cash to book your vacations. This would save you several THOUSAND dollars.

Do more research on timeshares if you are thinking of buying DVC for anything besides using for DVC resorts.

If you don't need to be on Disney grounds there are a ton of inexpensive Orlando area options that are much cheaper to get to than DVC.

For us we have DVC, and a couple other TS to do what we want when want at a reasonable (sometimes silly cheap) price. We love DVC and is by far the most expensive thing in our portfollio for both initial price and MFs. However, it is also my favorite as it is a perfect fit for our family.

Good luck.
