Curious About Upgrades

I've never asked for an upgrade at a hotel before, and was curious about how that works at DLR.

First, I want to say that I'm totally fine with the reservation we have. We love PPH, and have never had a bad room. That said, is there any harm in asking about upgrades at check-in? We'll be checking in no later than 8am on a Sunday in December if that makes any difference. We'll also be celebrating a birthday.

For those who have asked for an upgrade, did it work? Any suggestions for how to go about asking?

Thanks!

pay for it if you want one

I have been surprised once with an upgraded theme room when I didn't ask but had it noted we were celebrating our Anniversary and a Birthday. On two other occasions when we checked in we asked if there was anyway of getting a free upgrade and we have received it. That being said we have asked other times and was told there was no rooms to be upgraded to which was fine. My whole thought process is that it never hurts to ask. What is the worst they are going to say, No. I love PPH and it has always been our home away from home but we are staying at the DLH for the first time in 57 days. Good Luck!

Be fine with what you booked & hope you get a little pixie dust. I wouldn't ask for one.

I do hotel reviews for a living. It never hurts to ask politely, mentioning the birthday, and letting them know you'd be willing to wait for a room if need be.

You're not likely to receive one, but all they can do is say no. My only thought on your check-in day/time is that you're arriving early in the morning on a day when a lot of people are checking out, which makes it less likely there will be anything available at that time. You're probably going to have to wait either way.
