Hi...

I was just curious ... We just recently moved into a new home and had a fence built for the backyard. Since my neighbor on one side all ready had a fence we only had to put up 2 sides. Well this weekend my neighbor painted her fence blue/gray. All sides were painted except the part that was inside my yard. This morning she came over and said she needed permission to come into my yard so she can paint the other side of the fence that is facing the inside of my yard. :earseek:

Of course I said "sure" .. "no problem" .. afterall she put up that part of the fence ,right? :confused3 What I don't understand is, WHY does she want to paint it when she will never see that side unless she opens up my gate and comes into my yard. Which most likely will be never.

So now I will have 2 sides of tan fence and one blue/gray side. :crazy2: Ughhh.....

That's weird--why would she want to paint the side she can't see and force her color choice on you? I think I'd have told her no...not unless she wanted to paint the other sides to match.

After I said "sure" and went back inside, I started to think about it. It IS weird. But I couldn't of said "NO" I just wanted to be nice and not start any trouble. She paid for that side so legally isn't it hers to do with what she wants?

DH has been deployed for a few months. I wonder what he will say when he comes home and finds the fence blue/gray! :earseek: He may want to go out and paint it a different color. After all she won't ever see it because it's inside my yard.

I agree. Should have said no............unless you like the colors? :confused3

The colors match her house but do not match my house. I really don't like the colors. But.. I don't know if it's legal?

If it is a wood fence, she wants to paint it to protect the wood. I would have told her, "Oh, you don't have to do that, it was nice for you to put up the new fence. I can paint it. It will keep me busy since my DH is away." You can always go over and tell her that - I don't think it is too late.

Too late...it's all ready painted.

Here's a picture

Oh well

Well, if it really bothers you and if you can afford it, you could always put another fence directly behind it on your property line. I did this at one home--mainly because the new fence we'd bought for the rest of the yard didn't match the existing fence. We were friendly with the neighbors and told them before hand and they didn't have a problem with it.

:rotfl: I can't get over how green your grass is! My yard is still covered with snow.

If your DH is like mine, he will come home and paint it straight away. I think she may not have been thinking it through too clearly unless you can see it from the street! If not, you may want to go over and talk to her about painting it a color closer to your existing fence since she won't see it. Just curious, did she paint the other side of that fence?

How did you mow the strip in between?

Is that Battleship grey? :smooth: I think I would ask if she would mind painting your side of the fence. Expalin in a nice way that it just doesn't go with the rest of your backyard. Then again you could do like one of my neighbors did and put up a fence next to a fence. This way they don't have to deal with the people next to them twice.

I hope it works out for you. try and see the positive side, At least she is keeping up with the house maintenance. :earsboy:

I lived in New Mexico. Getting grass to actually grow is a major achievement that requires a lot of coaxing. The grass just died off between the fences due to a lack of water--it was only a space of a few inches.

Good point, though--maybe that wouldn't work somewhere that grass actually grows on its own!

Yes, I believe she painted all sides, inside and outside. It really doesn't bother me too much. It is not visible from the street. No one will see it. It's just weird.

I wonder what DH will do. He may want to paint it, he was talking about staining the fence before he left. I really let him handle the outside. I handle inside affairs. :rotfl:

The grass is so green because DH fertilized it. We are the only yard in the neighborhood with green grass!! And it is so long because I can't get the lawn mower to start. Dh is going to come home to a mess. LOL

I'm not too good with yard work.

OH btw, I just got tagged!!!

PrincessaC, Congrates on the tag. It look as if I was just tagged also.

I think some neighbors of mine had this issue. Neighbor 1 (N1) put up a fence that was rust colored. Neighbor 2 (N2) lived next to N1 and they then put up a tan colored fence on two sides, meeting up the the rust colored fence on the third side. N2 asked N1 if it was okay to paint their side of N1's rust fence tan so it would all match. N1 didn't care, so N2 painted and everyone lived hapily ever after!

You asked if it was legal - check your local zoning regulations to see if she placed the fence properly. If fence is directly on the property line then (seems like) she was trespassing.

Fences tend to create situations that can be "sticky".

I "vote" to paint all one color :goodvibes

If it is her fence, and on her propery, then you will need permission to repaint it something else. You could have denied her permission to come into your yard to paint her fence but by law she had every right to protect her property. Protect I mean by painting it to keep it from rotting. If the fence is on the property line, no matter who paid for it, then you can paint it what ever color you want.
