Hi all! I have a Thanksgiving lunch ressie at 50s PT Cafe. This was one of the places I found offering a traditional Turkey day menu, which was something I particularly wanted. I've never been here before. On the one hand, I want to get the full experience; on the other, I have seen clips of the "family" staff here and they seem really mean and obnoxious. Anybody have any recent experience? (Even not so recent would help!)

I'm not likely to be able to get a ressie somewhere else this close, I guess, but I just wanted reassurance.

We have eaten here 3 times and have never had much in the way of antics. Other than being told we have to set our own table, we've pretty much been left alone.

If you found the clips you saw "mean and obnoxious" you may not be happy here.
I find it to be lots of fun. You need to take it in the spirit it is meant. It is part of the experience of this themed restaurant.
The staff seem pretty able to judge who is interested in participating.
If you really feel it is obnoxious, I would reconsider going there.
If you can find a way to accept it in the spirit meant it can be fun.
Best Case they will understand you do not wish to participate, and leave you be. Unfortunately, you may be seated right next to a table having a great interaction, and you will still see and hear the antics.
Hope if works out for you!

We just had lunch here on Sunday, and it was fantastic! I would not consider anything our server did mean-spirited or obnoxious, it was all in good fun- she had my DH get his elbows off the table a couple of times, she called my DS12 "Abercrombie" because that's what his tshirt said- she made the whole restaurant do the airplane noise while she fed the last bite of green beans or greens to my DS12 & DS14- she was excellent, and we had a LOT of laughs!! :goodvibes I hope you enjoy your meal!

We actually love it there and try to make it every trip. Its mostly light hearted and fun, some of the CM's are a little more dry with their sense of humor, maybe that is where the "mean" is coming from?

its been my observation that they seem to know which people dont mind playing along. I went there with the parents of a friend one time and there was very little interaction with him, lets just say he has a "grumpy" look to him. but he still had a great time.

I'm just a little shy by nature, esp with strangers. I know this is Disney so they aren't really trying to be mean. They ought to have a field day with my DH, who has a very dry sense of humor.

For some reason, I don't have trouble interacting with the suited characters--when I can actually see the person underneath, it's a bit different. I am going to go and try to have fun.

It will be great, I am pretty shy also, but I love it when they pick on DH. He takes it so well too. They even fed him his veggies he didnt touch.

also I dont remember having a meal there that i did not like.

I think it would be worth a try - I say go for it.

We are braving it in December. We usually aim for the quieter places to eat so this is outside the box for us. I may "forget" to remind DH about this place and I don't think I've ever described it to DS9 but he has a great sense of humor. I am sure DH will whip out his cell phone at some point during lunch. Too much fun!

I haven't seen any of the YouTube videos but maybe that is a good thing? I don't think of seen any (?) reviews here saying they were upset or offended by the antics

It seems to me that the CMs at Prime Time are very good at reading people. The one time we ate there, our server didn't really do her bit with us at all, aside from introducing herself as our "cousin." She did ham it up with other tables in the section, though. She could tell pretty well who would be receptive and who wouldn't (like us).

Remember that the servers at PTC are working for your tip. Like any CM though they don't want to put any guest in an uncomfortable spot. We have dined there three times and thoroughly enjoyed it each time.
Once DW ate there on our anniversary. The server had everyone in our shared room sign a card for us. :lmao: He also playfully berated me for not cleaning my plate, and gave a DW a "Clean Plate Club" sticker for eating all her pot roast. DW took the card , the sticker, and our pictures and created a great scrapbook page.
Other experiences there have been just as pleasant and fun.

I agree with this, they seem very good at reading people. I was there with just my wife, no kids, and we didn't get much shtick. I was worried as well, I was hoping for the best but expecting the worst, and it worked out fine.

Now that I've said that, after consuming what was probably the best chocolate shake I ever had, I don't care what they do to me, it's on the list for our eventual next trip. Also, my wife who is iffy when it comes to meat loaf ordered the sampler platter, and the one thing that she ate in it's entirety was the meat loaf. Said it was the best she ever had.

We ate there almost 8 years ago (we does time go!) so consider this dated!!!!

But...we had a good meal (fried chicken!) and alot of fun! I don't remember anything that was uncomfortable. But after the meal, the waiter brought out a HUGE sundae (ice cream loaded with everything including cracker jacks)...I was a little taken back by it..."what is this gonna cost me???" and it was only $4.00!!!! We all enjoyed it and have an ADR for an upcoming trip! (we have been to disney since but not HS)

This was a long time ago and I am not expecting a sundae! We are on the DDP anyway! LOL

I don't think it is that bad! Just remember they are their to entertain not abuse...I'm sure they know who to pick on and who not to.

I should have added that he put it in front of the kiddos 2 1/2 and 4 at the time. This wasn't for the adults! but we ate it....:rotfl:

I'm somewhat shy too, but wasn't at all put out dining there! Our waitress only teased us a little bit--she didn't like when I put my "gizmo" (cell phone) on the table--but it was very amusing and light-hearted. And the theming is very well done; I especially love the "living room" lobby (wish my living room had a bar in it, though...). My boyfriend loved it and specifically request that we return this year.

As others have said, the wait staff here generally seems able to read a table very quickly, and they are great ad-libbers and very quick on their feet. It's a skill that the staff at many of the other restaurants never have to master, so appreciate the extra lengths that they're going to to make your experience memorable!

We went last May and my brother in-law, who is a total jokesterhad to stand against the wall with a sugar packet on his nose. It was great. That being said he was egging on the server and so was I and we got most of the interactions whereas my sister was more low key and she was left alone for the most part. So I would agree the servers know how to read the tables well. I would go and enjoy watching what happens to your DH and others since they will probably get the majority of the teasing.

We have gone 3 times and we're always a big crowd ranging from the outgoing to the less-so. They typically pick up on people who aren't too "willing" as opposed to those having fun with it. I tried to "tattle" on my brother ( I was 36, he was 26 ) and I got put in a time out with my head against the wall. BUT this is because I was playing along. typically they're a riot and the place is a must-do for our family.
