Cupcakes that aren't sickeningly sweet?

I tried the cupcakes in DHS (chocolate peanut butter) and couldn't take more than two bites because it was so over-the-top sweet. I have had my eye on the black forest cupcake from Contempo Cafe, but just read a review that said it was so sickeningly sweet the reviewer felt as if they might go into a diabetic coma.

I really like a good cupcake, but I don't like that mile-high frosting and the sickeningly sweet (almost chemical tasting) cake batter. I am wondering if anyone has found a lightly sweet, flavorful cupcake to have as a snack at WDW. I am not expecting much...but will hope that maybe there is ONE out there???

I've never bothered to try any of them because I find cupcakes generally too sweet with frosting on them. I've learned over the years just to scrape off most frosting from either cake or cupcakes. I may keep just a touch of the frosting but not more than that.

How sweet is the Butterfinger cupcake at Starring Rolls btw? It looks and sounds yummy, but if it's sickingly sweet, I don't know if I dare try it, I could always split one with my best friend if need be!

If it's anything like their white chocolate cupcake, it's about the same as pouring a mix of sugar and melted butter down your throat.

Main Street Bakery has a chocolate, chocolate chip muffin that is dusted with powder sugar. It is more like a cupcake and is very good. It is not as sweet as some you have mentioned. My family liked it so much we had to buy some for the ride home.

Um, yeah...have you seen all these cup-cake stores that have opened up all over the country? I occasionally stop in to one of these places and treat myself to a gourmet cupcake. NONE of them have ever disappointed the way the DHS cupcake did in that chemically. over-sweet way. (Chemically-- think Hostess or other cheap grocery store boxed brands that have to sit on the shelf for months)

All I know is that for the people who scrape icing off we need to take a trip together. I love icing but am not a huge fan of cupcakes..... Lol

Stay away from the cupcakes at Goofy's. The cupcake was dry and chemical tasting and the frosting was overly sweet with a chemical taste.

I saved the cupcake for a treat when we were there in January and it was so bad that I threw it out after tasting it.

Seriously, we've never had a great gourmet cupcake at Disney. We haven't tried Starring Rolls version yet but my expectations are low just based on the excessive frosting alone.
