I see that BOG now offers a cupcake as a dessert during breakfast time. As long as we have an ADR can we all just order a cupcake and can it be a snack credit on DDP?

Sure, you can do that. But, keep in mind, the cupcakes at BoG are very small, especially compared to cupcakes at most other WDW establishments. You may have your cupcake and leave hungry, or be hungry again in an hour.

My DD got this as breakfast last month. I don't know if it was due to also having ordered regular breakfast for the rest of us, but when we got to the register (we pre-ordered), I was told the cupcake was being charged to the room. I told the CM that we wanted to use a snack credit. She insisted that we could not do that because it was already entered into the computer. I told her we didn't want to charge it to the room, and we'd like to just not have it at all (I was going to send someone else from our party over to the regular line to wait and order the cupcake). She told me she couldn't do that either! I was about to ask if there was a manager we could talk to when I decided to just forget it. Was a few dollars worth missing the possible chance we had of getting on SDMT early? If we waited for a manager to sort it out, we might have missed our chance. So I dropped it.

So to answer your question, yes, you can have just the cupcake. Whether or not you can use a snack credit depends on the CM who is working that morning.

No matter what, you will be receiving a platter with sweet pastries.

And the cupcakes BOG are meh.

But your plan works too.

I'm not sure that is true. The pastry tray comes with the breakfast entrée. If all they order is cupcakes, they should NOT receive the pastries.

I ordered the cupcake and my husband ordered on of the breakfasts (can't remember which one). We ended up packing all or most of the pastries in my bag which we snacked on later. I had packed a baggie just in case we purchased any snack foods that we wanted to finish later in the day.

You are (might be) correct.

I had not understood OP to only want a cupcake for breakfast.

I will mention, however, that there are folks that suggest a meal strategy of just one entree, for let's say two people, to get the pastries - meaning enough food is served, even by ordering fairly little.

There is also a meal strategy that suggests enjoying just snacks in place of a 'proper' meal.

So, now that I understand the OP better - sounds like a reasonable plan to go to BoG, and for the cost of a snack credit (for the Dining Plan that already provides too many calories), getting to check-out the inside of BoG.

We have received pastries with just cupcakes many times. I think it depends on how confused the server is. I wouldn't count on it, but there is a decent chance it will happen. Once they gave us two plates of pastries when all we ordered was a coke, a cupcake and a coffee. We tried to refuse one of them, but they insisted. My theory is that of someone loads it onto the cart, they give it to you.

She "couldn't" do it because she refused to do her job. It might have entailed using some brainpower to figure out which buttons to press. Can't have that. :lmao:

I wouldn't have missed my chance at SDMT either, though. On the rare occasion something like this happens, I make a note of their name & either swing by Guest Services or write an email. I don't mind if a CM says, "I'm not sure if that's possible, but I'll find out for you." I do mind if they lie. You absolutely can combine snack & meal credits.

We had the same thing happen on 8/17. Used dining credits for our meals and had a preordered cupcake on there as well. I figured I'd be able to use a snack credit for it. Nope. Had to pay for it. It could very well be that it requires extra effort for the cashier to ring it up that way. I would have thought that using two different methods of payment would be more work. Oh well.

Not a bad idea!! One of us can order a breakfast possibly the meat and cheese to share plus get the pastries. If i understand correctly as long as one of us orders a breakfast meal it will come with the pastries correct? We can then also use our snack credit for cupcakes for everyone. This should be plenty since we have some big meals planned for that day. On top of that I really do not want to spend much time eating since a big part of our plan is to hopefully get at least one ride prepark on 7DMT.

You are correct, as long as one of you order a breakfast you get the pastries, which I might add were pretty tasty as a snack later in the day. Of course, we preordered and with our time of 08:20 we were out in plenty of time to ride 7DMT. Hope all works out for you.

We preordered 4 cupcakes and 4 coffees, and got the tray of pastries. We were only going to see the castle, and this was more of a "second breakfast" for us. Those cupcakes are tasty, but teeny, and not something we would make a special trip to go back for. Glad we saw the castle, though, but once is enough.

You are correct, the cupcake was surprisingly small. This does work well for an early entry and to quickly get ready to start a wonderful day at the Magic Kingdom!

In June we pre-ordered our food at Satu'li Canteen. The only method of payment for a pre-ordered meal was credit card. Maybe there is some kind of similar rule here???

I'm planning to do a ppo BoG with my kiddo in February and I was probably going to get him the cupcake for breakfast and me a kid's meal... so if it comes with pastries, i can REALLY sugar him up before starting the day!

If you do not pre-order you can get the cupcake as a snack credit. you just have to order it on site in person.
