I was watching Food Network the other night and it was about cupcakes. Even though it was almost 10 at night, I almost got up and made some! They looked that good. :happytv:
But I resisted and haven't stopped wanting them since. They said something about brushing on a flavoring before frosting them. I was thinking chocolate cupcakes, flavored with something orange, and the frosting them with buttercream icing. What can I brush on top of the cupcakes that will flavor them with orange, but not make them soggy?

:confused3 Orange Juice? Just don't use a ton of it- brush it on. Or melt sugar and water (simple sugar syrup)on the stove mix in some orance juice and use that

Orange extract (or mint extract - how yummy would that be with chocolate... mmmm... like a Girl Scout thin mint cookie...*drool*) mixed with sugar water and then lightly brushed on. The extract has a really strong flavor so a few drops would be all you'd need.

Dip a finger in the mixture to taste before brushing on and then adjust accordingly.

Actually, I was thinking of making a simple syrup - equal parts of sugar and water and then mixing in a drop or two of extract and putting that on the cupcake before frosting. And yes, mint did cross my mind....yum! I also have some raspberry extract, that would be good too. And I have some lemon to put on a yellow cupcake.....I know I'll be experimenting this weekend. :rotfl:

You don't want orange extract, you want orange OIL. A few drops in a simple syrup would be nice with orange. Or, alternatively, add the orange oil drops to the icing.

Grand Marnier...you can always water it down with a little siple syrup if you want a weaker flavor.

A Orange simple syrup or orange flavor liquor but take a wooden squer and poke holes in the cupcake before you brush it on
