We are in search of awesome cupcakes during our upcoming trip in December. We took a long weekend trip in May & only found 2 while on the trip! We were disappointed that both the Boardwalk Bakery & Starring Rolls only had 2 types of cupcakes since I've heard raves about them. My DH loves the cupcakes at the Contemporary Cafe, the kind loaded with real frosting, not cream. This kind was virtually illusive to us this last trip so I'm hoping some of you have some recent recommendations & advice to share.

the strawberry cream cheese cupcake at BOG is to die for!

i also really enjoyed the queen of hearts strawberry cake cup at cheshire cafe.

Cappuccino Cupcake? I am so bringing my DD there for that! She LOVES sweets and we both love anything coffee flavored! I'll do a pizza lunch for that one.

To the OP, sorry I can't offer any help. We've only had the little birthday ones they always give DD (her birthday is almost always over our spring break, so we spend it almost always at Disney, and it's always a vanilla one with icing).

Is there a difference between cream and frosting? I personally don't care for the sicky sweet stuff (like the kind on cheap grocery store cakes) but like subtle sweet ones or cream cheese frosting.

The king cupcake at pop century (chocolate, banana cream inside, peanut butter frosting with bacon bits and chocolate drizzle)

Our favorite cupcakes are at the resorts. The Poly has a Tiramasu cupcake that is YUM. The Grand Floridian has a Piña Colada cupcake that I want to rub all over my face. When I do a girls' trip, we hop on the monorail and make stops at each resort trying/eating /sharing a cupcake (or 2) at each stop. The Wilderness Lodge has a S'mores cupcake that's pretty delicious. Oh, there's also a German Chocolate somewhere along that route. Wait, did I mention the Hot Chocolate cupcake at Contempo Cafe?

Lol
Rub all over my face- love it!!

Sadly many of the cupcakes are kept refrigerated and it ruins them. Cold cake is just yucko IMO. I used to love the red velvet ones at Main Street bakery because they were room temp and loaded with cream cheese icing. The strawberry cupcake at BOG is excellent.

The PPs highlighted 2 of my faves: The Cheshire Cafe in MK has great cupcakes (I loved the Cheshire Cake Cup . . . sort of a birthday funfetti) and POP's King Cupcake. I think there are websites online devoted exclusively to WDW cupcakes. LOL :)

I think they have really good cupcakes at AK at the little bakery in Africa right before you get to the Safari. I liked the Simba/lion King cupcake there! It seems to be hit and miss if it is available but the BC Marketplace has a chocolate and peanut butter cupcake topped with Reese's Pieces which is really good! Also I have heard good things about the caramel cupcake in Germany at Epcot but have not tried it yet - plan to check it out on our next visit.

We got this at the poly a couple years ago and it was YUMMY!

Yes, some cupcakes are topped with frosting (which is the really sweet stuff you describe), while others are topped with something more like a cool whip. We're looking for frosting over the cool whip-type cream. Though, personally I agree, I love a good cream cheese frosting too! We had the SW ones below on our trip in May & they were pretty good. The Olaf one was great!

I'm not much of a cake person (some white cake's ok and I like dense fudgy brownies) but I love frosting. The Cheshire Café has delivered any frosting/cake type needs for me. It's frosting to cake ratio is unappealing to some, but it's how I like it (I give the bottoms of cupcakes to someone else! lol). Then again, I've never had a cupcake with filling. I don't liked whipped frosting though and the ones I've had at Cheshire have some substance to the frosting.
(I'm a visual person)

I tried the Tree of Life cupcake at Animal Kingdom today. It was just meh. Don't get me wrong, it was a piece of art, but I'd save my calories.

This is the Piña Colada found at the Grand Floridian cafe. Inside the cupcake is a yummy filling with pineapple bits. My mother would be embarrassed if she heard the noises I made while eating this beauty in a public setting. Think the Disney version of When Harry Met Sally.

Roaring Fork at Wilderness Lodge didn't have this one named, but I call it Pink Crunch Surprise. The sprinkles add a crunchy element, but inside is a tarte lemony filling. The contrast of favors really worked. I ate this one last year, but it's still available here....next to the S'more cupcake. I can't find a picture of that one because we inhaled it before a camera could located.
