I'm not a big cigar smoker, but I enjoy one once in a while. I've always wanted to try a Cuban cigar just to see what the big deal was. So here's my question.... Is there anyplace on the Western cruise to get a Cuban cigar. I know that you can't bring them back into the country, but I would assume there wouldn't be a problem smoking one on my verandah.

Just wondering...

John-

You can get Cubans at most tobacco shops in Grand Cayman and in Cozumel.

I've read on a previous post that there is a renowned cigar company in Grand Cayman. I'll look when search is up and running and get it's name. Don't waste your time at any place other then a reputable company. Phonys and copys are as common as rolex watches in Manhatten. They aren't cheap and if the deal seems too good then walk away.

Thanks for the info. I would definitely be interested in the names of reputable shops, and would you know how much I should expect to pay for a *real* Cuban?

Not quite sure of the cost of cigars in Grand Caymen or Cozumel, just returned from the British Virgin Islands and Cohiba's and Monte Christo's were running $10.00/cigar or $300.00/box
Hope that helps

My husband likes a good cigar now & then. He picked up his Cubans in Grand Cayman. I think he paid $10 - $15 for each cigar. The link mark & sandra provided is the place. It's a neat place & I don't like cigars..

Here's the thing- please don't smoke them on your verandah... Yes, it is your verandah & you can do what you please. They are REALLY STINKY, as they are pretty strong. Forget about the smoke issue, I'm not going to go there...The smell will permeate the air & linger. Others won't be able to enjoy their verandah as well, or keep their doors open for night air. Here's what you can do to keep everyone happy!

Go up to the adult pool, sit back on a lounger, get a brandy & enjoy your cigar! The open deck will move the smoke & smell quickly. I think they have a cigar/brandy night on the ship by the adult pool just for this purpose. It's not very crowded up on the deck at night & there are other guys up there doing the same thing.

My husband has done this on our cruises, has met some interesting guys, kept me and our verandah neighbors happy and truly enjoyed his cigars! :D

sixbitslocum: You may want to try a place in Coz called Havana Club. The prices were better that Cayman. Check your Port Guide called Shopping in Paradise, Cozumel. We were told to avoid those places not listed on the guide because DCL does not recommend them to guests. We found those places better than the others.

Hope you enjoy your cigar, no matter what anyone else says. Remember to smoke them there because you can't bring them back home to the US!

There is also a little cigar shop in Key West that sells cigars that aren't Cuban, but are rolled by the Cuban imigrants that have migrated to the Key West area. Both my husband and father thought these were very good, and i didn't have to worry about taking them through customs.

It is off Fitzpatrick Street, on the opposite side of Kino's, and the man who owned the store was really nice, and helped me pick out several different types of good cigars, and they were reasonably priced.

Skip the renowned shop in Grand Cayman...the cigars were molding when we were there.

Go to Little Havana in the Forum Shops in Cozumel. The guys are great in there. My hubby loved it. It is up the escalator. There is a jewelry store on the first floor, also the best one we found in cozumel. Don't forget to take your coupons from the jewelry talks for free tanzanite earrings and diamond earrings.

There is also a nice bar to grab a mojito at and very clean restrooms.

We just got back from the Western on Saturday, (going through withdrawal!) and the prices in Grand Cayman were crazy for the cuban cigars. WE went to The Havana Club in Cozumel and got some great cubans for my husband.

What about the Eastern Cruise are there any good places that I should know about for Cuban Cigars? The queen won't be happy and officer Jeff from my Belle's 2nd grade D.A.R.E. program will tell her that her Daddy's doing drugs (because tobacco is a drug Dad), but I would like to try one abroad since we can't get them in th U.S.

There is a great place in St. Martin that has a great selection, great service, and trusted shipping ( I took the box and the bands and they fedexed the cigars, with out swithing on me), they are very near the point where the water taxi drops you off in Philipsburg, I was there in November.

I will be doing more business with them as soon as this box is gone

bless you for even asking a question about cigars and for even thinking about smoking it on YOUR veranda!! let alone admitting that is your intentions. But i must say you have been treated much better than my husband was 4 months ago when he asked the same question and mentioned smoking on the veranda.

good luck happy shopping and yes a good Cuban Cigar is worth it.

...................::yes::

The one most important thing is to make sure you enjoy it. I had a margarita and a cigar every night on my veranda. I paid for my trip and had every intention of enjoying it. Don't know about western but in Nassau just of the docks to the left is a small alleyway. Almost hidden is a small shop with good prices and every time I go there the owner is willing to haggle.

Alos you can enjoy the cigars on deck 9 in the adult area and on deck 10. On my cruise I saw others enjoying also.

Is it illegal to bring cuban cigars into the us? What about shipping them home?

On another note ... are the cabins non-smoking?

Yes, it is illegal to bring them back or to ship them to the US. That said, I know many people who have brought back a few with no problems. Bring back several boxes might be another problem.

Yes, all cabins are non-smoking but smoking is permitted on all verandahs.
