Thanks :earboy2:

If I remember correctly, there are Cuban cigars available in the Bahamas, but you aren't allowed to bring any back into the US.

Just watch for fake. They are rampant, even in Cuba nowaday, I hear.

Hi,

Yes, their is a geat little shop in Nassau that sells them. I have brought back a few. I was given the tip of taking them out of their bands and packaging. It isn't legal to bring them back to the US, so becareful if your going to do this.

Be careful...DEFINITELY illegal! You'd be wiser to just smoke them on the ship.
But unless you really know your cigars, the odds are that you'll wind up with fakes anyway.

Barb....So you can buy Cuban cigar and bring them on the ship???...It's just illegal to bring them back to the US??? I would like to know this...as I'm sure my dad (who's joining us on our cruise) would enjoy one. He is NOT a smoker...but has enjoyed a cigar on a RARE occasion or two. And I do mean RARE.

I have also heard of people removing the bands...or even bringing a cigar box from home....and loading it with the bandless cigars (or even replacing the cuban bands with ones bought at home)...I'm not recomending this...as it is illegal to bring them back...It's just something I have heard of.

You can actually buy Cuban cigars on board the ship! Just make sure you smoke them on board as it is illegal to bring them into the US.

I really doubt taking the bands off will help if you get caught by customs (which is probably unlikely if you only have a couple). The customs agent will assume they are Cuban since the band is missing and confiscate them anyway.

1. My middle name is Kennedy, so I am partial to the late President, but his embargo found no supporting nations. It is just silly now.
2. The contraband factor definitley improves the taste of the Cuban Cigars, no doubt.
3. Yes, a violation of the trading with the enemies act, but as a practical matter customs is not on the lookout for the nice Disney Family father with a ziploc bag of 5 Cohibas in the zip pocket of his shaving kit--they're just protecting against some smuggler with two cases.
4. The better tobacconists where the cigars are authentic cubans are on St. Martin, on the Eastern itinerary of the Magic.
5. I gave up my two cigar a year Cuban "habit" when DS was old enough to say "Daddy that can kill you". I know two cigars won't kill anyone, but I had the chance to make a big impression on him and at a low level sacrifice of just 2 cigars a year on average.
6. Yes, get a good one, don't try to save money, pay retail and get it from a tobacconist (not the cigar rack of a drug store) that is humidity controlled so that the cigar is fresh and properly stored, and enjoy on-board at one of the cigar friendly locations.
7. Boy, was my neighbor's college-student son excited when I presented him with the 20 or so authentic cubans I had in my humidor, and the humidor as well, as back to school gift last year after I decided to stop smoking cigars. He was the big man at SAE after that. And they offered me their Masters badges for the closing round this year in return!

SMOKE 'EM IF YA GOT 'EM--but not in my stateroom or other open areas not designated for smokers, please.

Yes, we've purchased many a Cuban cigar on our cruises and at AI's in Mexico. You can smoke them there or on the ship, but do not try to bring them back to the US. Do not buy from street vendors as they are likely fake. Buy only from legitimate stores like La Casa del Habano.

Are you absolutely sure about buying Cubans onboard? We were talking to the CM running the Duty Free Shop on the Magin last June and were told that they do NOT carry Cubans since they dock in the US and have to clear U.S. Customs

...and to answer the original question. It is illegal to bring them into the US. You're fine buying and smoking them on the ship before it returns to Port Canaveral and you disembark.
