CttM and virus

Hi All
I've just spent the better part of the last 2 days cleaning up my system here. I got hit too. One banner on the site was/is causing the virus.

I'm taking the site down later tonight and scanning each page to be sure the site causing the virus is removed. I caught it on the home page, but not on a few others.

http://www.castlecops.com is a fantastic site that will help anyone remove viruses and worms. I highly recommend them to all!!!

I do apologize for this and hope no one is infected.

Well, apparently the viruses are still there- just got hit again with them on Saturday and Sunday. My dh is so mad at trying to get them off the computer, that he has "banned" cttm in our house until the problem gets resolved once and for all. He said the viruses are particularly nasty here because they embed themselves so deeply in the computer that they could be missed until they do a significant amount of damage.

I would like to suggest that everyone switch from IE to Firefox. I was having a lot of problem with spyware and viruses on the PTC programs before I switched. I haven't gotten 1 virus since and the spyware is significantly less.

I use Windows Defender and AVG Virus scan. Both are free. I have not had any problems with CTTM, even when everyone else was. If you use MS, go to their website and download Windows defender, for me, it was better than AD Aware and the other DIS popular anti spyware. AVG from Grisoft is equal to Norton and MacAfee for virus portection and scanning.

starwood, I tried Firefox and it slowed my machine to a crawl. I know a lot of people who have had virus and spyware problems with it also.

How long ago was your last visit? I removed the banners causing the spyware last week and haven't gotten any reports otherwise. You may have the old pages cached and they will still display the banners with the virus. You may need to dump temp files as well.

I'm using IE myself and I'm on the site around 15 hours a day. I will be more than happy if anyone needs me to to do a remote assitance clean.
