CSR vs. POR or maybe AKL, opinions please,

We are going for the week after Thanksgiving, and right now they have CSR or POR for the moderates available, or AKL. We've stayed at POR several times and loved it. I'd like something different, but I'm not sure If CSR is it, I have 3 kid 4 and under and we want a resort with the holiday feel. WL would be great but is not available right now, would AKL be a better choice than POR? I just don't know what to choose???? Opinions please, Thanks,

Okay, I need to start by saying I haven't STAYED at either yet. I have an upcoming trip to AKL with the kids after Thanksgiving (2 nights there after 5 at POR). I picked it because they love the animals and the resort sounds and looks so beautiful and exotic. I've also seen and read a lot about the Christmas decorations and feel to the place, and I'm satisfied it will be beautifully Christmassy. Like you, I'm eager to try WL, but this trip isn't the one; there are five of us going, and WL rooms are for four (well, I suppose a suite or something, but that's not in the budget!).


CSR has a fabulous pool. Absolutely fabulous. But at that time of the year, you can't count on being able to use it much. It's a sprawling resort that can be a bit draining to get around, from what I see, and the food's not very well-reviewed.

I would vote on either staying at POR for its reasonable cost (and it's supposed to be absolutely beautiful at Christmas) or splurging on AKL if the budget permits.

And with either of those choices that you make, I trust we might have a chance to meet! I'll have my DISboards pin on, and a lime green fanny pack...we'll be there November 28-December 5. Are you going to MVMCP?

Buzz2001, thank you! Your website is terrific, and has made me give thought I might not have otherwise to staying there in the future. It's MUCH prettier than I thought it was. I'm glad I at least prefaced my post by saying I hadn't been to either of them!

interior corridors, zero entry pool and slide is for children. Too much to list why I think you should choose ALK if that can be a choice. Love ALK and everyone should stay at least once.

I'd say go with AKL. It has a similar feel to WL (which you indicated was your first choice). I've never been to WDW at Christmas, but I've read that AKL has great decorations. The rooms at AKL and WL are almost identical (with the theming being the obvious difference). AKL has a good quick service restaurant (though not as expansive as a food court at a moderate) and a GREAT buffet in Boma.

If you decide to go with a moderate I suggest giving CSR a chance since you've already tried POR. I've tried them both and like them both for different reasons. Amentities are pretty equal (though I prefer the food options at CSR) so for me, the choice comes down to the theme - American Southwest/Mexican versus the deep south.

CSR is a beautiful resort and would go back again. One word of advice though. If there is a convention going on make sure you watch them young n's. The club car drivers get in a hurry sometimes and become rather rude.
