CSR vs. Poly

We just spent a week at CSR and really liked everything about it except, to a minor extent, the size (we were in the Ranchos), the convention resort aspect, and the fact that you have to take busses everywhere (although I thought the bus service was very good overall).

We'd go back there again except we'd like to try something new. The Poly strongly appeals to us from both a location and theme standpoint. In addition, we'll be going with my parents. Our children will be 8 and 2 at the time of the trip, so technically all 6 of us can be in 1 room in the Poly (when we stayed at CSR, we had my MIL instead of my parents and that went fine - so I'm thinking 6 in a room at the Poly will work if we did okay with 5 in a room at CSR, especially if we're in one of the longhouses with the larger rooms).

Part of the reason the Poly's location appeals to us so much is not only for the Monorail access to MK and EP but also because we dined deluxe last time, absolutely loved it, and want to do it again. In that regard, 3 of our 6 dinner choices are at Monorail resorts (including 1 at the Poly itself) with another at WL.

On the other hand, we could return to CSR (or go to another mod) and book 2 rooms for less than the price of 1 room at the Poly. Obviously, this provides some practical adavantages like more privacy and an extra bathroom (although we don't have a problem with some people showering the night before). In addition, I keep reading all of these reports about how the Poly has become really worn around the edges. So I'm concerned that if I go with the Poly, I might have big time buyer's remorse the minute I walk into the room (is it possible that the Poly rooms, although substantially larger, are not as nice as CSR rooms?)

I realize this is not an apples to applies comparison as CSR is a mod and the Poly is a deluxe. But I'd be curious as to hear reports of anyone who has stayed at both of these resorts recently and could provide some advice for someone in our situation.

you are on the right track in your thinking....

Is Poly worth the higher price? You get monorail access to many more restaurants, fast transportation to MK, and theming that is better, and bigger rooms. All a matter of taste vs cost.

CSR is my least favorite Moderate... because of its layout, food, and location/transportation times.

PO has a nicer layout and more common food. Close to EPCOT and closer to MK and DD.

CBR I like if I get the villages close to Old Port Royale but the bus does take a long time to get through there (like at OKW and SS with so many stops.)

I would say don't got back to the same place just for the sake of trying someplace new!
Hope that helps.

I have stayed at both. The poly rooms are way nicer. I like CSR, but your not comparing apples to apples. I have never found the Poly rooms to be worn. I have stayed there 3 times, and our rooms have always been clean and welll maintained. When you stay in Disney Deluxe resort you are paying for location. The Poly can't be beat for location. Lets not foget all the table service restaraunts on the monorail and at epcot. I know there are a lot of people on these boards that think people that stay deluxe are throwing money down the drain. They are entitled to their opinion, but I think they are worth every penny. If the privacy of having two rooms is more important then a prime location it may not be the best fit for you. I think with the deluxe dining plan a monorail resort would be perfect.

These are the two resorts we have had the majority of stays and we love both of them. That being said, we no longer stay at the Poly for the price, no hot tub, crowded pool and unreliable monorail service. We've also fallen in love with OKW and AK and will be renting points and staying there for most of our future visits. If it was us, we'd save money and go back to CSR in a heartbeat.

CSR and Poly are two of my favorite resorts. Poly has a great location, and you can watch the fireworks from the beach and have easy access to two parks. Bus service at Poly is not great, but we still really like the resort, and it has great dining options.

CSR has fewer amenities and a price to match, but it is a great value for the price. I would not want to put four adults and two kids in one room at the Poly, even though the rooms are large. I'd do two rooms at CSR. Have you looked into renting points? You could get a 2 BR villa for the cost of the Poly room and have a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and some privacy!

We are bringing a friend this year for DD's birthday, so we are a family of five this year. We looked at Poly and the junior suite at CSR and opted to rent a 2BR villa at BWV - it was cheaper and we have way more space and still have a great location.
