For anyone who has stayed here, Which area do you recommend & why? I was looking at pics of this resort and am leaning towards requesting a room in casitas. comments please.

I originally thought that I wanted a room in the Cabanas but since I was sure I did not want the Ranchos (I just don't care for the looks of them and they are the furthest from the food court, etc.) I put in a request for Cabanas or Casitas.

We ended up with a ground room floor in Casitas 5 that overlooked the water and I was so happy with the room. The Casitas are beautiful - much more beautiful than the Cabanas IMHO, especially at night. There are so many beautiful fountains and courtyards to wander around and explore. I just can't really describle how beautiful the whole resort is and while I know I had heard people complaining that the conventioneers stay in the Casitas we didn't find that to be a problem.

To each his own but we love the cabanas!! You can check out pictures and info on my website below. Good luck deciding. You already made a great choice in CSR.

CSR is the best! We too stayed in Casitas 5, 3rd floor, with complimentary waterview, and it was spectacular. Casitas 5 is far away from the food court if that's important to you. I think Casitas 3 is closer. Since there are coffee makers in the room, it didn't matter to us (gotta have my morning coffee...and quick!).

Since DH wants a "tropical feel" next trip, and I didn't want to stay at CBR and we can't afford Poly, we requested the Cabanas. I hope we are as thrilled with them as we were with Casitas.

Have a great trip.

We stayed in the Cabanas Bldg. 8B and it could not have been a better location, IMHO. We had a water view on the first floor. We were very close to the Dig site, just a 90 second walk. Right behind our bldg. was the parking lot for our rental. Walk time approx. 1 min. as was the bus stop. Walk to the food court, at a slow pace ( after all were on vacation ), no more than 5-6 min.

I always hear people say, "That CSR is large resort, and the walks can be long". That can be said of all the Moderate resorts.
It depends on your location within that resort. We have stayed at all the moderate resorts and if you don't do some planing a head of time.....Well, you could fine your self doing some additional walking. IE; first time we stayed at CBR we were in Aruba, now that's a hike to Port Royal! But we learned from that and requested a location next time that was better for us. My advise look at maps, and pick a location that's best for your trip.

Have a great time! I thing you'll be very happy with CSR.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Casitas. I faxed ahead and simply asked to have a room as close as possible to El Centro. I lucked out and got a ground floor, Casita #1 room. It was a 2 minute walk to El Centro and a 6 minute walk to the Digsite. The nice thing about the Casitas is they have 4 floors. The higher up the more you can see (depending on your view of course) Yes there were conventioners there but they were no different than any other guests. I also enjoyed the proximity to Bus Stop #1, the food court, restaurant, store, guest service & internet kiosk & bank machine. HOWEVER, I wouldn't mind trying the Cabanas on a future stay.

We were there last week. I did not express a preference for one area of the others as I was not sure which would be best for us. Left it to chance and ended up in Casitas 3. It was great. We were very close to El Centro which turned out to be very handy. I would stoll over there while the kids were napping to get a refill on my mug and to check out the gift store plus we had several meals there. I would say that we were at El Centro at least 3x each day. We had a bit of a walk to the Dig Site but we only went there once each day so it was not a burden. It was about 8 minutes I would guess. Our kids are old enough to make the walk without being carried so that made the distance less of an issue also.

I also thought the Casitas were very beautiful. I loved the fountains and gardens and the overall look of the place. It felt so different from our New England home. Made us feel like we were really escaping the cold cold winter here.

What is right for you will depend on your priorities. If you want to be close to the Dig Site then the Ranchos or the Cabanas will work. If you want to be close to El Centro then either the Cabanas or the Casitas will work. If you want the best atmosphere, then IMO the Casitas are the most lovely.

But whatever you get you should be happy because the entire resort is very attractive.

Thank you so much everyone for the replies. I can always count on the wonderful people here to help out.

Before our June 2002 trip we preferred the Cabanas based on location. But Ranchos seemed better themed. We requested Rancho. We arrived early at 10am, they had our ranchos room with a view upgrade ready for us. They said it was complimentary for my birthday.
After exploring, we personally found the Cabanas to look like old huts and the casistas look like brightly colored condos. Not to mention the casistas are the usual choice for conventioners. The ranchos were quiet and peaceful, and better themed than the other two sections. We took so many pcitures along the little brooks and on the large rocks throughout the section. We found it to be very romantic for us since we just couldn't swing a deluxe that trip. If we had children we still wuld have preferred the ranchos section but we may have requested Cabanas that are closer to the food court and main area.
All in all,we would go back to CSR and we would request ranchos again. I guess it is all in what theme you prefer and whether you are looking to be right where the main area is or farther away. Good luck!

When we stayed at CSR last summer, I was hoping for a room in the Cabanas section. We were offered a room in Casitas 2 instead, and I'm glad that we got a chance to stay in that particular section. I thought the themeing was beautiful! I was very impressed with the landscaping and the immaculate grounds. Our room/building location was the best! We were in a ground floor corner room and right outside our door was a beautiful long lion-fountain that you may have seem pictures of. We were literally steps away from the Casitas quite pool which was always empty (and offers a nice view of Illuminations!) as well as the gym, laundry room, and salon. The building was also very close to El Centro, and the Casitas bus stop. It was about a 2-3 minute walk to the Dig Site, definetly manageable. I thought Casitas 2 was a great central location. I know many comment that conventioners usually stay in Casitas. Yes, we did see a few people, but no big deal at all. They fit in just like regular vacationing guests. I totally recommend Casitas and would stay there again. This is a link to a resort report I posted when I came back. It has more detailed info about the room, location, and resort in general. Hope this helps!

Is the decor the same in the casitas as it is in the cabanas?

maciec here is a link that shows the inside of the rooms.

It is from Deb's All Ears Net Website.

I hope this helps. I stayed in the Casitas so I am not sure what the other rooms look like. According to the pictures the decor looks all alike.

DH and I just returned from our first stay at CSR and absolutely loved everything about this resort!

We stayed in Cabanas 8B-really close to the Dig Site (which was closed for the first few days), and the bus stop was about 30 seconds away. It was a comfortable walk to El Centro.

We loved Pepper Market, and the store had quite a nice selection of merchandise. Francisco's lounge was teriffic. What a great place to enjoy a margarita (and we had more than one!). I can't remember the server's name, but she was great!

Our only disapointment was Maya Grill. Food was o.k., but the service was the worst we experienced our entire trip. We'll give it another try some time, though.

I think you'll have a great time no matter which section you stay in!

Inaminute - we thought the service there was lacking also. They tried to seat us near the door to the service kitchen and when I asked for a better seat they wanted to seat us at the very next table. The whole restaurant was empty including most of the window seats. So I asked for a window seat and was seated next to the emergency door with no water view. Give me a break. Who were they saving the seats for? The food wasn't worth writing home about either.

But we loved the rest of the resort and hope to return some day.

I am so disappointed to hear that Maya Grill is evidently no longer the restaurant it once was. When we were there in 2000, the best meal we had was a dinner at the Maya Grill, it surpassed the meal we had at California Grill, which was also outstanding. At that time, it was what I would call gourmet southwestern. And the service exceeded what we had at California Grill. At both places we had excellent, top-quality servers.

In our case, our server just rushed us through the meal. There was only one other occupied table in our section. I could understand a lack in service if it were busy or late, but it was neither.

The food was o.k. Hmmmm....maybe it wasn't since I cannot remember what I had! I remember the bread was good!

We will give it another try. Every restaurant is entitled to one bad night. Or maybe this one just isn't for us. We're heading back to WDW in June/July but staying at Beach Club Villas. Maybe we'll try it again during that trip.
