Based on it's location and the look of the rooms, we requested Cabanas 9a for our upcoming trip. I just read that this is a smoking optional building. We don't smoke. Is there likely be an overwhelming smell of stale smoke in the room or are we going to have to walk through clouds of cigarette smoke while staying there?

Yes, cabana 9a is a smoking optional building. It is possible that the person before you was a heavy smoker. Friends of ours got a room that had a heavy smokey smell so she switched to cabana 9b.
