CSR or POR

Okay kids(12 & 6) and I are planning a last minute trip for the end of February! We usually do Pop or go all out at a monorail resort. Trying to stay on a budget and kids want to try something new, so we are trying to choose a moderate. Which one do you guys think would be better, Coronado or Riverside?

We haven't stayed at CSR, but love POR! IMO it offers a bit extra, like boat to DTD, fun family entertainment in evenings in the lounge. Bob Jackson puts on a great show. Horse drawn carriage rides, and a fishing hole for cane fishing. Plus it has a great food court, and the landscaping is beautiful.

I just booked POR for my wife and I for an early March trip on Orbitz with the 15% discount combined with the Disney Spring discount. Having never stayed at POR, I'm looking forward to experiencing what the resort has to offer, including taking the boat from the resort to DTD.

That's a tough choice - both resorts are awesome, especially for kids! I loved the pool/waterslide and the playground at both CSR and POR when I was younger.

However, with the convention crowd that CSR draws, POR might be a more family friendly atmosphere.

We've stayed at both, and both are great. POR gets a slight nod from us, mainly because we hail from the southwest and the decor/landscaping at CSR isn't very exotic to us.

Just our opinions....

CSR pros:
*Main pool is awesome
*Good bus service
*Excellent housekeeping

CSR cons:
*Theme isn't our favorite (personal preference)
*Some rooms in Ranchos can be a far walk to El Centro
*Hate the QS options here

POR pros:
*DTD boat
*Best QS on property, in our opinion
*Doesn't feel quite as big - possibly due to the layout

POR cons:
*Don't care for the main pool
*Theme doesn't do much for us
*Housekeeping was mediocre last two trips
*Buses were hit or miss last two trips

I think POR is family friendly with more hustle and bustle. CSR has an adult feel that is laid back. Some people are bothered by the conventioneers walking around, reminds them of work.

The kids and I have stayed at both, and our vote is for POR. We had a pretty bad experience last summer at CSR with the convention crowd, and ended up switching resorts to POR (been to Disney 20 Plus times and have never had to do that before). POR was more family friendly, and just a better fit for us.

I loved the conventions going on (as long as I stayed away from the restaurants at the resort when they on lunch). Over 2 weeks in the summer, we didn't have a problem getting a good spot at the pool, a seat on the bus, etc... I know it can take away from the atmosphere but there are good things that come of it too.

This is true. Very much pros and cons to the conventioners. The bus and pool did have times when they were relatively empty, but there was also a few instances when we were boarding a bus and a large group of 20+ people from the same convention (denoted by their matching t-shirts) boarded at the same time as us. Crowded the bus, and they were boisterous. In addition, we didn't care for eating breakfast by the lake surrounded by folks on their blackberries and laptops. Very much reminded me of work at home and when I travel for business, and we felt it detracted from the resort "Disney bubble" feel we've gotten at other resorts. YMMV.

I've been to CSR, and I'm going to PORS this June. But, I'd definitely recommend Port Orleans for your kids. Coronado Springs is really big and better for adults, because it is technically a convention/business resort (it has a convention center). Port Orleans has been said to have amazing theming, which is why my family and I are going there this year. Also, if you'd like to, research Caribbean Beach. It is still very large but it has a much better theme for children than Coronado. Overall, Port Orleans would be my choice though.

PO is much more family friendly, and the landscaping is gorgeous. Plus, you might get swamped by the convention crowd at CSR. But either are good choices.

We've done both. We just booked CRS again. I liked POR, the food court was nice and we used the boat to DTD once. CRS doesn't have too much of the Disney feel but the pool is awesome, they showed movies by the pool and played games with the kids. We really enjoyed our time there. I liked that after being in the park all day surrounded by kids and characters the resort was a little break. :)

They both have really nice pool areas, but IMO POR has much more to offer in the grounds Ole Man Island and like previously stated the water transportation is just fun too.

POR definitely. While I thought the grounds at CSR were beautiful, the resort had this eery, quiet, almost clinical atmosphere. Our room was dirty (spots & marks on the white bedspread) and the staff were unfriendly/unhelpful.

POR had a lot more magic in my opinion. It felt more Disney, more friendly, & more relaxed.

I also loved POFQ because of the small size and great one-stop transportation. If you stay at POFQ, you can walk to the pool and amenities at POR. We stayed in building 6 at POFQ and the walk to POR was under 10 minutes. That would be my choice if not wanting to rent a car. But POR is great too. I would take either over CSR. No question.

Definitely POR! We've enjoyed both, but POR is much better suited for families. CSR doesn't have that Disney magic. The food court was confusing due to the large amount of crowds there at the time we stayed. It is beautiful at CSR, but it had many adult travelers on business (keep in mind that it's a conference center as well).

POR was filled with families and fun! POR food court is wonderful. The pool is great for kids. We personally prefer the Bayou rooms near the food court - it's especially nice to get a Bayou room near one of their small quiet pools. The mansion side is nice as well. Again, we liked staying by one of the smaller pools (quieter and less people). Enjoy!
