CSR or Cabins?? please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, Here's the problem. We have reservations at CSR for October 26-30. we've been there before and love it. However, we've also always wanted to stay at the Ft. Wilderness Cabins as well. This is regular season so with our AAA discount the diference between the two for the 4 nights is about 500.00. That's alot of money I know, but here's where the problems begin. My husband will want to rent a car at CSR because he hates to be dependant on the bus. We also have a daughter with Down Syndrome and her staminia isn't the same. As a matter of fact, we'll only be going to the park(MK) one day. The rest of the time we'll be at the resort and putzing around. I also know at FWC we'll need a golf cart.
WHAT SHOULD WE DO?????

I have been to both & love both for different reasons. With a rental car, your transportation is the same. FWC have a slight edge because you have pretty direct transportation to MK via the boat launch. Driving to the MK is a pain & you are better off taking WDW transportation to that Park from either resort.

There is a ton to do at FWC. You didn't say how old your daughter is but I thought FW was better for younger kids because of the campfire sing-along, marshmallow roast, petting zoo, pony rides etc..... There are really lots of recreation options to keep her busy.

We stayed at FWC 3X when my son was 4,7 & 10.My son loved the campfire sinalong, movies, marshmallows. golf cart, swimming, boating& bike riding.
We stayed at CSR when he was 12. At 12, he loved the Pool, Pepper Market & Arcade.

Thank you so much for your reply. Our daughter is 11, and I know that she would love all of that. So would we I think that we're trying to justify 500.00$ difference. The golf cart would be about 150.00 but then that's how much a rental would be as well.
We would have to get wegoshop to deliver. Does anyone know how much that is?

Have stayed at both and have a DS with Down Syndrome (now 21). While we loved the cabin itself, we were not excited about the campground. We had a walk to the bus stop (I don't believe you can take your cart to that) and the buses were always full. We ended up only using the bus to MK, which took us to the main area, we then had to walk to the boat and then took the boat. All other parks you had to catch a bus to front of campground and then change buses. We ended up driving everywhere and to all other parks. We ended up not doing anything in the campground or even using the pools because it was simply too much trouble. My DS loves to swim and was perfectly happy enjoying the pool at CSR. We would hop in the car to travel anywhere quickly from CSR. Was a vacation for us a CSR. Cabins was just too much work and too tiring on him. We would only return if it is a great bargain and we were not planning on doing anything in the campground, simply use it for homebase and of course, have a car.

We have stayed at both CSR and FWC, and we really loved the cabins. CSR is a beautiful resort, but we felt it had too much of a convention center feel to it.....I felt like I was at a teachers conference! The cabins and CSR are nothing alike...CSR is tropical with palm trees, beaches and hammocks, and the Cabins are secluded, wooded and naturally beautiful, giving you that Pacific North West lodging kind of feeling.

There is much more to do at FWC....Petting Zoo's, boat rental, campfire program, EWP, horseback riding, horse driven carriage rides, and more! This may be your best choice since you are planning on having a more relaxing resort based vacation. But you will need that electric cart...and you will need to make a ressie for it before your arrival.

To answer your question about the $$$, Yes, I definitely think it is well worth the extra money to stay st FW, but everyone has different opinions. We loved staying at FW, but my friend from work absolutely hated it! She was expecting it to be like WL, but was disappointed to be in a secluded cabin in the woods.

If you have a golf cart at Ft Wilderness you can drive down to the dock and then take the boat straight to MK. I would also agree that it would probably be worth it to spend the extra $$ for the cabins if you are planning on spending much time at the resort. If you were going to be spending all of your time at the parks I would say it might not be worth the extra $$...but there is so much to do at Ft Wilderness that your DD might enjoy and if you have a golf cart it will be perfect for enjoying all Ft Wilderness has to offer. Plus you can justify spending some of the extra $$ on what you will save by doing some of your meals at the cabin. Think how nice it will be to be able to let her go to bed while you and DH have a living room to talk, watch TV or whatever.

I would NOT recommend the cabins if you do not have a golf cart or a car however. Mt DD's still love to rent a golf cart for a day even when we aren't staying there and drive all around Ft Wilderness....the golf cart is great entertainment in itself!! Don't forget to reserve one early if you decide to stay there....they are almost always all booked in advance.

I think that we will go ahead and rent the cabins basedon the answers that we got here. I already got a golf cart and feel that we have made the best decision.
