My husband and I currently have a room booked in GDT Dec. 1-10.

But we started to look at other hotels for maybe lower cost/different forms of transportation and wondering if it would be worth it to move our reservation to POP to get a cheaper rate and access to the skyliner.

We’re mainly caught in a “what if” that’s got us second guessing. Does anyone have any pros or cons for staying or changing?

I haven’t stayed at Gran Destino but I’ve heard great things about it. However, after my recent stay at Pop with the skyliner, I don’t think I can stay at a hotel without it now! It was so much more convenient than buses. You didn’t mention what the price difference is but if you’re looking to save a few bucks I wouldn’t hesitate to switch to Pop.

The price difference is about 1,500$, so not make or break, but it would be a nice addition to the transportation.
Last year Disney offered nice discounts for GDT, do you think they might be offered again?
POP only has standard rooms left though, so something else that's kinda a con.

I would be surprised if they offered anything close to that discount again, but you never know I guess. For me $1500 would definitely be enough to switch. Even in a standard room you can request a building that will get you pretty close to the main lobby and transportation.

I hate Pop and love GDT.

That being said, if the Skyliner is something that would have a significant impact on the way you'll vacation, save the money and go for it.

Would moving to CBC save you anything?

How about you making it a split stay and moving to POP for the first five days?

Totally forgot CBC was on the route.
Has the resort been redone recently though?
Our main focus is transportation and redone/not run down rooms.
Pop and just a triple win with with saving money also, but not our favorite choice.
Any insight on the bus system at GDT, I’ve heard different things?

It’s DH’s first time at Disney, and I haven’t been in about ten years, so we’re not really wanting to do a split.

There are standard rooms in every building at Pop, so unless you really like facing a pool I wouldn't really call that a con. We had great rooms facing the lake in the 60s building last trip that were standard.

Love the GDT. Good views. It’s the last bus pick up going to the parks and the last being dropped off. We have taken uber a good bit. Usually costs $8 or less.
we don’t leave early or come back late. I only stayed at Pop once and didn’t like the outdoor hallways and heard too much from neighboring rooms. The state of the rooms was fine at the time.

Sorry, should have clarified, its a con for a less likely chance of a room close to the lobby/bus stop.
Thank You for that info though, I wasn't sure about that!

Those dates overlap Pop Warner. You're likely to run into a bunch of PW kids at Pop, less so at the Tower.

Just think about it again - it'll allow you to enjoy multiple resorts and Disney makes switching hotel super easy - call the bell desk and they will move the suitcases from you while you're out at the parks enjoying your time and then go to the new hotel when you're ready :)

Thing is, a standard room location could put you closer to the gondolas. I frequently request a room in the 60's building facing the lake. So beautiful and peaceful...and its located right by the gondolas. How wonderful!

I wonder if they'll change it thou? No doubt they will...eventually.
