CSR During Construction? Don't Be Afraid

Don't let construction at a resort put you off. Especially if you will be mostly in the parks or at the pool from 9-5. Stayed in Ranchos 7A this weekend for a last minute trip. Great AP discount. Brand new room...still had that new room smell! The beds were incredibly comfortable (make sure to check under the beds when you leave). Great pillow selection, Keurig coffee maker, nice new mini fridge, excellent use of space in the closet and vanity area, plenty of light, and a huge TV. Bus Stop 3 right near by. They are finishing construction on this building now but it was a non factor. They don't start before 9 am. We love this resort. It is so nice and quiet...even with the "millions" of cheerleaders on property and the construction!

Thanks for this! I have been thinking of a VERY last minute stay because of a great AP rate but wondered about the construction impact. We spent a good amount of time at the pool on our last stay at CSR and I worried that the construction would be an issue if we did that again. Also nice to hear that they are using the renovated rooms now!

But then they are going to start the construction to build a 15 story tower which early days may include lots of pounding to get support in the ground. The building will then be connected to El Centro and some renovating being done to that because the lobby will move into the tower. And there will be work done in the lake to add an island, bridges and water gardens.

Would I stay? Probably but I go often. I would request Ranchos to be as far from the construction as possible. But I will be prepared that there will be lots going on for awhile.

All are good points and I think it is all relative. We stayed CBR a few years ago and the jack hammering of the small pool right outside didn't bother me that much. But the helicopter flyovers every 15 minutes during the day when i wanted to nap drove me mad! If I wanted to have several pool days during the intense construction, I may stay someplace else.

For a last minute trip in the near future, it will be a steal. They are behind schedule to the room renovations but I'm sure the pace will pick up now that 7A is almost finished. Not sure when they will break ground on the tower. But once they jack hammer everything to dig out, I don't imagine that will be too bad either. Again, it all depends on the type of trip and how much time you spend at the resort. No one we talked said the pool time was ruined during the day.

WDW does not release schedules, just timeframes of when it should start. Once it starts, it's supposed to take about 18 months.

And many families are not at the park during this timeframe. Some people take park days off, sleep in and go to the parks late, or come back early afternoon for naps.

A room refurbishment is one thing, but the tower, lobby, bridgework, water work, that's coming is completely different. Unfortunately, the construction zone doesn't magically disappear after 5pm. I'd be more affected by the lack of aesthetic appeal and the logistics of accessing the main building if bridges/walkways are being closed down.

Whatever, some people don't mind construction. Personally Id like to feel like I'm on vacation and if I'm spending x amount of dollars, and can stay where I don't have to look at dirt and fences blocking off things, all the better. Theres always something going on somewhere, but theres plenty of resorts to choose from. Ive been to CSR without the construction and is not my first choice anyway. As far as staying as far away from the main area as possible, I would want to walk to the main area, so I guess for the people that just get in their bus and go straight to their room, its great. I like to walk the resort I'm at and enjoy the whole property.

We were there in March when they were tearing down the buildings where the tower is going. We stayed in the Cabanas one building down from where the work was being done. I get up at 5 every morning and walk the resort and frankly the fence around the construction area was no big deal. We never heard anything and we were at the resort all hours of the day. My son sleeps in until around 9 or so, we come back for some hot tub/bar time and sometimes go back to the parks, sometimes not. It was a non-issue for us, but as others have pointed out, I guess it just all depends on your tolerance level. I have stayed at other very expensive resorts all around the world where work was going on so maybe I'm just used to it.

Yes. Because the "construction" that is happening right now is nothing compared to what is to come so folks with future trips will in no way experience what has been going on so far. Noise now and in the future are apples and oranges.

I hear you as we are big park people as well, but I think you'd be surprised how many folks are at the resort all day long. Many, especially the more they pay for their room, have resort days to swim, eat, do recreational things, nap etc. Some families return every day mid day for naps. On any given day at some resorts getting a lounge is difficult because they are so busy.

For us, we like to close a park down and be out late .... so we sleep in. Construction at 9 will wake us up and impact our stay.

And many families are not at the park during this timeframe. Some people take park days off, sleep in and go to the parks late, or come back early afternoon for naps.

Was just at POP and went over by the room rehabs = loud loud noise, and just a room rehab. Wait until they are building a 15 story tower along with all the lake construction. This will be nothing like what that, or what has been happening. Florida land will require a quite substantial below surface support .... and all this construction along the lake will reverberate noise across the lake.

I'm not as worried about the construction at this time as I am about the cheerleaders! We will check in on the 8th out on the 15th, both weekends I know will have cheerleaders. I'm wondering how crowded they made the pool and other areas?

There are several pools. They might be crowded, but there should be room. If the cheerleaders are spending all their time in the pool, not sure how they will do in the competition lol.

Cheerleaders weren't really a factor at the pool from what I could tell. They compete all day and then they go to the parks. The buses were very loud but not out of control or disrespectful. Just teenage loudness. The parents were crowding the bar area at night though! Can't say I blame them lol.

I think everyone has to decide what is important for them and their families and weigh the pros and cons. We had a wonderful stay last weekend. We got an annual passholder rate of $159.60 on a weekend. We got AP on our last trip because it was cost effective for us. And it payed off beautifully for this past weekend. We snuck a surprise trip in and got a brand new room. The fences and construction were a non factor for us. At this point in the construction, the beauty of the resort was not affected. The walkways from Ranchos 7A to the pool and main building were were not blocked or obstructed in any way. Bus service was not interrupted or less frequent or anything either. I feel like we got a steal and no inconvenience. We checked out on Sunday 4/30 so maybe things have changed already but you never know.
We have another longer trip planned for Halloween/Holiday crossover time. I'm not sure if we will stay at CSR or not and this far out, I wasn't willing to roll the dice in terms of price point vs. not knowing where construction will be at that time. So I booked at POP and will check later in the summer to see if it will be worth it to us to go to CSR.
No Disney trip is cheap and there are so many options to choose from. If the trip is in the near future, it may be worth it for you. If your trip is months down the line, you know you want to stay at a moderate resort, that you will want to sleep in/have relaxing resort/pool days and you are just not sure, go with a "safe" bet and book the different moderate now and keep an eye on the boards to see if the rates/stage of construction make it worth your while to change to CSR.

We checked out on Sunday 4/30 from Ranchos 7A where they are still finishing up work on that building. We slept in that day and had no bother from noise. I guess it depends on what sleep in means to you. Normally we are up at like 6:00 am. We slept till 9:00, walked to the main building for breakfast, walked back to the room, then took the bus back to catch the ME at 11 am. There was some minimal noise at 10:30 on that particular day.
