From the website:

How do forensic investigators identify their suspects?

Learn about the state-of-the-art techniques used by modern law enforcement to match criminals to crimes through evidence found at the scene. Join our team of experts who will guide you through exhibits and lab activities to show you the real science behind CSI, and take you step-by-step through the collection, examination, and analysis of forensic evidence. These highly interactive workshops will place the investigator's tools in your hands and teach you the tricks to solve the crime. With a wide range of topics to discover, you'll keep coming back for more.

Impressions Workshop: Learn how to collect fingerprints and shoeprints and then how match them to one of our suspects.

Blood & DNA Workshop: Learn how to make sense of blood spatter patterns, locate hidden or cleaned-up blood, and match DNA profiles.

Frauds & Forgeries Workshop: Learn how to foil check fraud and bank robberies by detecting alterations in documents and reading through ink to find hidden messages.

Activities and content are appropriate for visitors of all ages. Workshops are held in the NMCP and last for one hour. You must purchase an admission ticket in order to attend the workshop. Tickets may not be available online until 2 weeks prior to the workshop date. Please check back for availability.

Please arrive 15 minutes before the workshop. Tickets are not refundable if the patron arrives late or fails to attend the workshop. The NMCP reserves the right to cancel or change workshops at any time; should this occur, we will do our best to contact you promptly to inform you of refund or exchange procedures.

I was refering to this:
CSI Adventure Book

Price: $5.00
Qty: Complete your museum experience by adding a CSI Adventure to your tour. You become the CSI...unlock clues and solve the crime!

I may just order it now and check it out since no one seems to know

It's pretty good...my 6 year old niece loved it..

The Spy Museum is also very good......I have a little "inside" info on that one...

The Museum of American History was recently redone as well. I saw in another post where you wanted to take your kids to the Holocaust Museum, and I think you're making the right call by skipping that one at this point! It's incredibly intense.

Air and Space Museum and the Museum of Natural History are great for Kids...

All three are right off the Mall...

You might already know this, but just trying to help:thumbsup2

Edited to add:

We got my niece the book...she thought it was really cool, and she seemed to really get into it.

Also, if you can get out to Dulles, there's another Air and Space Museum out there that's really good...
