Day Three- November 14, 2002
Morning comes early when Mickey is in charge of waking you up! I woke up at 6:30, but ended up laying in bed until seven because I was so tired.
I was excited, though, because today was my Epcot day! I love, love, love Epcot!
I called Bell Services to have my bags sent over to PO-R, since I would be moving there today. They picked them up, and I was off! As I was leaving my room, I got to meet Cynthia my housekeeper, who was very sweet! Due to the fact that Captain Cooks was still in its temporary location, I decided to try to find something at Epcot for breakfast instead.
I took the Monorail to the TTC, and then to Epcot. I adore the monorail ride to Epcot, since it circles the property first as a teaser! There was already a long line for Spaceship Earth when I arrived, so I passed it and went to Innoventions to send an internet postcard home, and then went over to Living Seas to visit my favorite fish.
A couple of years ago, my mom discovered a little white fish in one of the small tanks that spends his days getting mouthfuls of gravel and spitting them out, digging holes in this manner. We love him! We tried to name him once, but couldnt come up with anything, so I said Ok, well name him later. And mom said Later! Thats a good name!, and so the fishs name is Later. I try to check on him every tripI cant be certain that its the same one, but I like to think it is! I watched him spitting out gravel for a while, and then went on to visit the manatees, which were eating breakfast. I took a photo of the schedule of fish and dolphin feedings, so that I could just bring it up on my camera later to check the times. It was great in theory, but I never remembered to do it
I also got to hang out with the Eel for a few minutes. A lady near the case was talking about the time she saw some while she was scuba diving, and suggested that I take up diving as a hobby.
I really miss the ride at Living Seas. Not that it was all that fantastic or anything, but the pavilion seems to be lacking something without it. Do you think they took it out for budget cuts? I hope it comes back some day!
By now I was absolutely starving, so I wandered over to the Land, hoping to find something at the Sunshine Food Fair. Following my pattern of eating ever-so-healthy on vacation, I got a wonderful piece of strawberry cheesecake. It even had a strawberry on top- YUM! In fact, it was so good that it almost made up for not getting that cheesecake at the Poly- I missed the fun of drizzling on the topping, though. I sat at a table taking notes and eating, and noticed a theme in the music.
While I was there, they played Sunshine on my Shoulder, You are my Sunshine, Sunshine of my Life, and Moon River (which always makes me think of Breakfast at Tiffanys!). After my cheesecake, I rode the Land, which I always enjoy, but for some reason, I didnt take pictures in the greenhouse! Im such a nut.
Next I went to check out the new Journey Into Your Imagination, complete with Figment this time. It was SO much better than the non-Fig version! (I have a fish named Figment at home). Next I went to HISTA, where I sat down next to a man and woman and informed them that I would be joining their family for the show since I was alone. They adopted me immediately, which was fun
They asked me how I enjoyed the show afterwards, and we discussed some of the special effects. I wanted to keep them, but alas, thats not the way these things work
In fact, I had many temporary families over the course of my trip, and it was always sad to say goodbye to them, but they all enriched my trip!
Next was Ellen, the one attraction at WDW where I like the preshow as much as the attraction, followed by SSE. By now I was absolutely starving, so it was off to the Food and Wine festival over in World Showcase! I decided on a bowl of cheddar cheese soup from Canada. This is one of my favorite foods in all of WDW! The bowl was really rather small compared to what you get at Le Cellier, but those are the ways of the Food & Wine festival! I think youre really much better off to go in and have the real thing, since you get that wonderful pretzel bread with it, and I dont think there is all that much difference in price ($2.50 for the mini bowl vs. something like $5 for the big bowl with bread). Unfortunatly, my throat didnt understand that I really wanted this soup, and every time I tried to swallow I would choke and could barely breathe (digestive problems are not fun!) I sadly resigned myself to the fact that my throat had just said No soup for you! and had to throw away most of my soup. Alas, alas.
I decided it was time to go check in to PO-R, so was on my way out of the WS, when I spotted something that made me giggle. There, in the middle of this wonderful festival celebrating food from all different cultures, was a couple eating McDonalds chicken nuggets and fries. Why!? Why I ask? Crazy people!
The bus area was being refurbished, so I had a long, LONG walk to the PO-R bus stop, which was the furthest away. Did I mention it was a long walk? We left Epcot at 2:45, and I was in my room at 3:20! I had requested a room in Magnolia Terrace, but the CM at check-in couldnt find any that were available, so I ended up in Parterre Place, which was only a slightly longer walk. I picked up some breadsticks from the food court, since by now I was beyond starving, and settled into my room. I was really, really worn out at this point, so I sat around watching TV for a few hours, and then ended up falling asleep from 5-9! Oops! I was kind of mad at myself for throwing away half a day, but apparently I needed the rest! Sadly, now that I was up and full of energetic, the parks were all closed, so I decided to hop the boat over to Pleasure Island for a bit of the night life. The boat ride was absolutely beautiful!! I cant wait to do it again!
It was a bit early still, in terms of PI time, so I went to Disney Quest for a few games of Miss Packman and a class on drawing Mickey. Its nights like this that I was very thankful for my premium AP, which granted me admission to DQ. I was able to pop in for a short amount of time without worrying about paying the rather high admission cost.
Over in Pleasure Island, I popped in to Motion, but nobody was dancing! That club drives me nuts- it always reminds me of a junior high school dance where everyone is just standing around, barely nodding their heads to the beat.
Next I stopped in 8-Trax for a few minutes, where it was 80s night, which would have been a lot of fun if Id had friends with me, but being alone, I just wasnt in the mood.
Finally, I found myself in my favorite place in all of Downtown Disney- The Adventurers Club! I stuck around for the show with Hathaway in the Mask Room, the New Member Induction, stepped outside long enough for the fireworks, and then back in the club for the Hooplah. Oh adventurers club, how I love thee! The funny part was that Helen from MGM the day before was there, but I think shed had a few too many Kungaloosh to remember me.
After the Hooplah, I decided to go back to the resort for the night. I love PI, but its just not the same by yourself, you know? I decided to try to make it to Epcot for the opening the next day, so it was off to bed with an early wake up call planned!
