On our first night in WDW, we have CP planned for dinner. I'm starting to rethink this. Any other suggestions for a restaraunt (doesn't matter where) or should we just stay with CP?

We are already planning on having dinner at Ohana' and CRT

Its hard to answer this without knowing why you want to give up CP. We like it a lot and would like it even without the characters. It is a little hectic (all the character buffets are, IMO), but the character interaction is usually good and we think the food is great.

Other places you might consider could be the DTD restaurants. Raglan Road is one of our favorites and almost a not to be missed for us. We sometimes like to do a dinner show on the first night - it starts off our trip on a nice note.

Happy planning!

Thanks! The reason we are considering 'dropping' this ressie is b/c we are worried about the food. We've been here for BK and while the characters took a long time to get to us, it wasn't that big of a deal. We just don't want to 'waste' a meal at Disney.

If food is your concern, it shouldn't be a problem. They have a wide selection. Each member of my family likes completely different food and we are all satisfied whenever we go. It is a must do for our family. I highly recommend it.

We were there in November for dinner and we all thought it was great. We will definitly go back on our next trip. I thought the peel and eat shrimp were great.

We have eaten there twice for dinner, once last summer and once this past Nov. To me...it is just "okay". I think it is expensive and the selection is not as good as Chef Mickeys but both are expensive when you are paying adult prices for kids over 10. But that is my opinion. I think I am getting burned out on buffets really. Maybe I am not the best person to answer this. :lmao: I love the breakfast buffet at CP though. We have eaten there early so that when we are done...it is park opening and we are ahead of the crowds so to speak.

I think for people that haven't tried CP...then they should try it. You might love it and if not....it is not like it is bad by any means.

We were there in Dec and thought it was horrible. The characters spend very little time at your table and then rush away. It is extremely overpriced for what is on the buffet. If you are on DDP try it for yourself. If you are paying out of pocket I would skip it.

:thumbsup2 That is how I felt in Nov. If you are on the dining plan....sure it is worth trying. However.....we weren't and it was very expensive in my opinion. I would have rather spent that money at a NON buffet TS restaurant. We went with friends and of course that was FUN though. :goodvibes

Thanks for the input everyone! We are on the DDP, so i'm sure we'll probably keep it. I've always wanted to eat there at night when it's so lit up and pretty. It's just not the same in the morning when I'm halfway awake... :sad2:

CP is a great choice for the first night! We went in November and spent our first day at MK. We had ressies for 6:30pm. I have a DH who is a picky eater and we thought it was one of the best meals we had! The food was great, the kids got pics with all the characters and we even cancelled one of our Chef Mickey ressies to have dinner there again! Chef Mickey's was actually the disappointment, the food was awful there, at least for dinner :confused3

We LOVE CP. We have eaten here on our last two trips and have been very happy. We ate here on our last night because it is sooooo Disney! I think it would be a perfect 1st night dinner!!!!

Count us in as another lover of CP. We've been for lunch, not dinner. We've gone on the plan on OOP and I was fine paying for it. It's all in what you like and your party size etc. We've never had an issue with Characters there but have at GF. I think it just depends on when you go. Even Tigger and Pooh can have bad days I guess. Our kids are big eaters. The kids meals just don't do it for them anymore, especially DD so we booked as many buffets and family style as we could. The variety piece is also nice. We actually have one lunch ADR and one dinner ADR booked for our trip in April.

It was my favorite dinner buffet we had of the trip! I think it's a keeper!

We have had both dinner and breakfast at the CP on two different trips. We love it very much. It is very beautiful and the characters were very generous. In fact, when my dd missed one because she was on a bathroom break, and I didn't complain at all, our CM server arranged for this particular character to meet her for a pic and an autograph on our way out. So very kind of her. The children and I thought the food was good, especially if you have people with different tastes. The puffy french toast on the children's menu is awesome and our server told us to try them although we are all over10. We do the DDP, and it is one of our favourites.
Have a fabulous time wherever you choose to go.

This is why we booked it... It is soo Disney and so gorgeous! It was fun eating there for bk, but going at night when it's all lit up? That's what has me wanting to go there! Haha.

Thanks for the input everyone! I'm thinking we are going to stay with what we have! :thumbsup2
