Crystal Palace - booked reservation with incorrect number of party - need help!

So if they can't accommodate the one additional person, they will say so at the podium, and that one person will have to sit outside and wait. Who has been harmed in that arrangement?

People ask all the time here what will happen if someone in their party is sick and can't make it or if they will be penalized for making an ADR for one more than their actual party size (since that's all that was open).

Not sure what you're getting at? All I was saying was that the lengthy answer given by and reposted from the moms panel didn't address the problem of the ADR being PPO.

If I had a large group that was celebrating together and had to leave one person outside the park so the rest of us could dine together without them, I'd be pretty unhappy. And knowing my family we wouldn't leave anyone behind at that point and would end up with a $80 no show fee. So there's the harm I guess, at least from my standpoint.

OP, Just keep trying to call back. I know it's a hassle, but we have all been through it. Continue calling and know that they have cancellations all the time and they will accommodate you if they can.

Don't just show up and play stupid--- think about how many people "playing stupid" the CMs have to deal with on a daily basis! Legions! They will see right through it, and you will be lucky if the CMs don't get an attitude with you-- which will not be at all magical. If they do let your entire party in PPO, it is likely you will not all be seated at CP, and the poor CM working the hostess stand will be left with an awkward situation by turning one of your party away. Alternatively, the CM may seat you (YAY! You "won"). This will mean other families, that have dutifully made their PPO reservation months in advance, will not be seated on time and their months of planning will be for naught.

See how unmagical this is getting?

Then those families will complain, managers will get involved, and the poor person working the hostess stand that let your party of 9 be seated will be called to account. Naturally she will explain that she did not want to face an angry, disappointed family, so she allowed you to be seated rather than risk a confrontation. At that point, the CM working the gate will be in hot water for letting 9 in on a reservation for 8.

Really not magical, is it?

So far this "playing dumb" has potentially upset or gotten into trouble at least two CMs and at least a dozen families.

I'm sure no one meant to impugn your honesty, but things like this tend to touch a nerve. Many of us have stood in line while people "playing dumb" try to scam the fast pass system ("But CM, I made all four fast passes! But only one is showing up in the system, I guess!"--guest "playing dumb" with fast passes and the magic bands in an attempt to get more fast passes than other guests--all of whom have paid the same as the scammers.)

I applaud your wanting to give your family a magical, fun time. That's awesome! But none of us may run over others in order to have that fun time, and part of having a magical time is following the rules so that everyone else has the opportunity to have a magical time as well.

Be legit. Be considerate. Follow the rules. Call daily and hope for some pixie dust. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! pixiedust: Good luck and have fun!

I think people were only suggesting "just showing up" with 9 as a last resort if she didn't get it fixed between now and then.

I get that. It's a last resort attempt to get OP what OP wants without having to face the consequences of her mistake. I am saying that this is not a good plan at all--for the reasons stated above.

All actions have consequences, and part of being an adult is accepting our mistakes and dealing with them openly and forthrightly and in a way that does not inconvenience others.

Again, the domino effect of one person's failure to follow the rules and show restraint is immense. Not to get too deep here, but much misery is brought to bear by those that think they are beyond the consequences of their own actions. The person running the red light, that is late for work because they mistakenly slept in and runs a red light, killing a child on a bicycle? But--it was just a mistake the driver slept in and HAD to be at work!

OP, I am not insinuating you would run red lights, BTW! I am merely attempting to point out that it is not all about us--and what we do always affects others.

Honesty is the best policy, and consideration is the new "it" thing. (Consideration is obviously not trending, but I can always hope.)

LOL, ok. You do it your way. I would do it mine.

In the end, Disney will tell you whether they are willing to sell you an extra $35 breakfast or not.

What's not honest about showing up and saying "We made an error in our reservation. Is there any way you could accommodate a 9th person?"

LOL @ the rules? Or LOL @ the idea of others being inconvenienced so that OP could have her way? What's funny? The problem is there is a PPO reservation at play here. This means it is not as simple as simply showing up and politely asking if an additional guest may be accommodated.

And I realize many will do what you suggest, PPO or not. I have stood on line and watched it unfold too many times to recall. I have sat and waited and waited for my PPO reservation at the restaurant where folks just "showed up and played dumb".

Should a person choose to show up at podium, after erroneously being allowed in early without a reservation for all members of their party, they best be prepared for this reply: No. And ma'am, how did 9 of you get into the park this morning?

Look for them to get on the walkie and security to show up and escort the non-reservation holder to the gate.

Meanwhile, fabulous example for the kids to follow. Ugh.

ETA: But perhaps I misunderstand, in which case I owe you an apology. Perhaps I did not understand that you would show up at the gate early, explain to the CM at the gate that you are a party of 9 (for example) but only holding reservations for a party of 8 but you were hoping CP could accommodate you? This would be honest, naturally. And naturally, if the CM at the gate said, "No, I'm sorry, we can not allow that", your party would accept that with grace and equanimity. There would be no whining and foot stomping and making the CM's morning a misery?

That being the case, I apologize, because I mistakenly thought the idea was to "show up and play dumb" and thereby bully through.

Please accept my apology for thinking the worst.

I appreciate the apology. I never advocated anything but utter and complete honesty. The guest can ask, and the CM can say no. That's all I advocate.

Once again, I hope the OP is able to find an answer before arriving to take any uncertainty out of the situation.

Okay, seriously this has gotten out of hand! I was just asking the question if (since I've seen other posts on here suggesting this) I was unable to get the extra person added to my ADR then what can I do? I know I said "play dumb" in my questioning but I was basing this again off of other posts I've read on here. If I have to give up this ADR because of this issue, than I would rather give it up instead of excluding a family member from this.

With that said I still have not been able to add my extra person to my 8:05 am slot but still looking into this. I did see that Disney released their hours for August and noticed MK will open at 8 on the day of this ADR so know I'm not sure if I will be keeping this reservation after all, as we are still finalizing the details of our trips (meals, etc.).

So in case others are wondering the same thing when accidentally indicating the wrong # of people in your party for an ADR, either keep searching or give up the reservation if it gets close to the cancellation period.

"Do not play dumb and/or cheat the system"!

Anyways, thanks to those who have given great suggestions on this..

Try not to let it bother you. That's just how some of these threads go sometimes.

If the MK is opening at 8, I would put my effort into finding a time later in the day to eat there instead. Late breakfast would be great, but lunch or diner is good too. The characters are the same regardless, and it's nice to have a table service meal later in the day to escape the heat and get off your feet.

I hope you have a magical vacation! :wizard:

Nope, I'm not going to let it bother me...just find in amusing that an Innocent question turned into something else.

I am planning to have the best time! I will be celebrating my 40th birthday and feeling like a kid! I've been to Crystal Palace before so I do know what to expect and another family member did grab a 9:10am time for 9, so we may end up going with that one so we can get in at 8, ride some rides, eat breakfast and then head out for a fun-filled day at MK!

Thanks again for your suggestions.

You can certainly play dumb, but you should understand the risks of doing so. I think that's all those posts were trying to get across.
