Can someone confirm if Crystal Palace has Mickey waffles? The lists I am seeing only list Vans. What about Mickey pancakes? specifically gluten, egg, soy free???
Thanks!

I believe allergy micky waffles are just resorts and tusker house. We stopped doing park breakfasts with DS because it was silly expensive for how restricted his options were.

well that's annoying but very good to know! Think I'll be canceling Crystal Palace-we are paying out of pocket and my son loves Mickey waffles but the resort food court will be cheaper and faster! he doesn't really care about Pooh and Friends and we were going more to be in the park early before everyone else and because mom likes Tigger:) Thank you!Just happy I'm finding this out now and not while sitting at the restaurant!

If you want Tigger and breakfast with Mickey waffles then try 1900 Park Fare. I really like the last breakfast seating there.

Oh no! I'm glad you asked because I will need to warn DS1 and see if he still wants to go. :(

I wish all of the character breakfasts offered the Mickey waffles. My little guy is so excited about getting GF foods in a restaurant. I wonder if Hollywood & Viine has GF Mickey Waffles? If not, i guess we need to rethink our dining plans.

Hollywood and Vine didn't have them in August 2013, so we haven't tried again. That was the place where the chef told me that my soy allergic son would be ok with the Van's waffles "because it's only soy flour, so that is fine." Then when I asked "do you have sausage without dairy because you just mentioned cheese in those?" He replied "cheese isn't dairy like milk is dairy." :faint:
I wrote to Disney about it, so I'm sure he has been replaced or educated by now, but DS had a plate of bacon and orange juice there, then broke out in hives so I don't know what else had been cooked by the bacon. The up side to that is that I would expect by now they are at least better about separating and paying attention to allergies. It was also by far the best character interaction we have ever had anywhere. Jake and Handy Manny each hung out at our table with us for about 10 minutes.

Yikes! I'm so sorry your son had a reaction. That chef sounds awful. Thanks for taking the time to write to Disney about it. I really hope they have provided more education since then. With my three Disney Jr fans, I know this is a place they'll love. I'll make sure I bring along a lot of safe foods to eat after breakfast. I think my kids might be too busy playing and meeting characters there to eat anyway.

Thanks for the advice!

As with any Disney restaurant, you can call or email the Special Diets department ahead of time to see what options will be available for someone with your allergies. We've found some places with allergy-friendly waffles and pancakes and others that don't, and that list seems to vary each time we go.

Namaste mixes (prepared without egg) would be safe for OPs allergies, and I have seen them listed for a few Disney restaurants over the years. I'm not sure about Bob's Red Mill and soy allergies, but their mixes are used throughout the park as well. (We avoid Bob's due to nut cross contamination.)

Either way, bringing a few safe snacks is always a good idea.

At the moment, the Bob's list on the pancake mix is :
potato starch, whole grain sorghum flour, tapioca flour, whole corn flour, cane sugar, baking powder (sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium bicarbonate, corn starch and monocalcium phosphate), baking soda, sea salt (magnesium carbonate) and Xanthan gum.

Part of the issues with allergy Mickey waffles is that certain places have a waffle iron for them and others don't. They may have the mix, but that doesn't mean they can make the Mickey ones. (which totally matters when you see the Van's ones vs. the cute little Mickeys)

We've found that if you have allergens that start restricting common breakfast foods, it's just easier and more fun to go to a lunch or dinner buffet. They have many more ingredients to work with at the other meals and things don't come pre-made as much. For example instead of a sausage that already has all the stuff, they will have plain raw chicken and pork, then a sauce that is optional. They can't take the sausage apart but they can leave the sauce off the chicken. They also use pre-mixed scrambled eggs, so you could end up with an allergic reaction because somebody didn't realize what was in there, where for lunch they will just start with the "from scratch" ingredients for you. They are a little more resistant to pulling out the lunch/dinner ingredients at breakfast (last seating will sometimes get lunch foods too!), so they could have a fridge full of "safe" foods, but you are picking between the sausage, a few pre-packaged mixes, pre-scrambled eggs and outside bakery breads at breakfast- its depends on your allergens how well that mixes together for you.
My perspective comes from trying to do buffets for a kid who can't have wheat, soy, egg or dairy and wondering why we bothered. (he has other allergens but those are the ones that rule out most of a breakfast menu at most places)

Agreed! Well said, mistysue! (Although we avoid buffets altogether.) We generally eat breakfast in our room before we head out anywhere, which usually means we eat something we brought from home, like instant oats or muffins and some sort of fruit.

I also thought that anywhere that had the safe mix had a safe waffle maker. I'm sad to hear that's not always the case. :( I guess we've always lucked out with that one. I'll be sure to call our resort a month ahead to see if they have the safe mix and the safe waffle iron before we go, and bring our own breakfast food accordingly.

I remember thinking that too so I suspect that they may have done something to downsize some of the kitchens' equipment, possibly to expand their grilling space for special orders. As far as I know resorts haven't had the issue, it's just the in-park breakfasts.

We went back in June and we avoid Bobs Red Mill products as well. Personally I HATE how prevalent those products are at Disney and well....everywhere else. I wish they would just stock Namaste products everywhere. But this is where we found Namaste mix for waffles during the past year:

Contemporary
Grand Floridian
Polynesian
Caribbean Beach
POFQ
Pop Century
All Star Resorts
AOA
Wilderness Lodge

The waffles I get don't have wheat, soy, dairy, eggs, or nuts. I have to say, the best ones I had were at Contempo Cafe. I always got 2 orders every morning and stuck them in the room fridge for a snack.they are good even cold!

If you want to do a character breakfast, I recommend 'Ohana with Mickey, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch. I had a great experience there last month. I was able to have the fruit without any of the sauces. They brought me my own skillet with scrambled eggs, Mickey waffles, potatoes and bacon, all allergen free.
