Hi all

Its been a while since we've been on these boards, but to be honest we've been out of the Florida market for some time now due to a combination of things.

The problem is we're scratching our heads something terrible here at the moment for a summer holiday idea which will please everyone in our family.

Does anyone have any ideas for a holiday in Europe which will suit 2 40 something parents who like to relax in betweeen a bit of exploring and the occasional trip out. But, mostly enjoying the lie-ins etc..

DD who is 16 this October, she isn't sporty, also likes her relaxing starts to the day. Would like to be somewhere she can make friends and socialise.

DS who is 14 this year, sporty with a small s, but does not enjoy relaxing so much and most of the time wants to be doing something whether it be down at the beach, swimming pool etc... But, would also enjoy socialising with other teenagers along with his sister..

Ideally. we're looking at Europe I think as our budget is around £2.5k as well.

Its probably too much to ask for inspiration here, but thats what I'm after...

Thanks in eager anticipation for good ideas..

Terry

Terry - just wanted to say Welcome back

Haven't any idea's for you, but I am sure someone will be along to help soon.

Sorry don't have any ideas as we don't ever holiday in Europe, but hope you find something suitable.

We went to Tunisia in September last year, and it kind of fits ur bill. As long as you choose the right resort you should be ok. Beaches are good and there are plenty of interesting excursions if you have the desire, and its only 4 hours away. Could easily get something for ur price range too.

Terry we were having the same problem ! where do we go with a DS who is 16 in March and DD who is 10. Very different in all ways. We looked at Europe but couldn't get excited about anything. We spent two weeks in Lanzagrotty year before last and was not that impressed. Having priced up a European holiday for this year and then asking Travel City for a quote for Florida there wasn't much in the price ! so we are now planning to go this July (after DS GCSEs) in a villa. :cheer2:

I am a convert to cruising - it really has everything you say you're looking for and is fantastic value for money as all your food and entertainment is included. There are so many myths and misunderstandings about it all. I've just finished reading Simon Veness's book 'Choosing a Cruise' which manages to blow them all apart. He says it has the highest satisfaction rating of any major holiday type and, having just taken my first, I now know why.

What about Cyprus? Our non-Florida holiday is Cyprus. We can do as much or as little as we want, there is plenty of things to see and do including jeep safaris, boat trips, scuba diving, historical sights, nightlife, fantastic food, hot sun and lovely friendly people.

Our non Florida holiday last year was to Salou.

Close enough to do a day trip to Barcelona, lovely beaches to relax on, and Universal's Mediterranea resort for a good old dose of theme park.

Of all the places around the Med that I've visited, I think Turkey is the best.
Try to avoid the really big resorts. We really like a smaller resort called Olu Deniz. It has a bay called the blue lagoon and is the place they always feature in all the Turkey brochures.
The Turkish people are the friendliest I have ever met.

The only downside might be the heat. If you go in the middle of summer it is absolutely scorching.

We love the Algarve. DH, DS and I have been on an annual basis since DS was 3 years old (he's now 16). He loves it. However, you do need to choose your resort carefully. Lagos and resorts west of there are very nice and more unspolit than Albufeira.

We went to Belek in Turkey last year. We stayed at a 5 star all inclusive hotel which was absolutely fantastic and was great for families with children of all ages. It had the Pool, obviously, it was right on the beach where they had some water sports, there were lots of organised activities/games you could join in if you are that way inclined, evening entertainment and a disco for the young uns and loads of other stuff. It was one of the best holidays we had as it had something for everyone.

Can't say I've travelled a lot in Europe, but I'd highly recommend Nice having been last summer. The weather was gorgeous (sunny and hot but not humid - about 25-30 degrees C), it's a great place to relax as it's very laid back and you're never far from the beach (pebble not sand). There are loads of great restaurants all over Nice but particularly in the old part.

There are lots of shops if that appeals, lots of designer stores in the new part of town and more touristy shops in the old part of town. There are lots of museums and churches too.

You're only a few miles from lots of other famous places e.g. Monaco, Cannes, St Tropez, and close to the Italian border too, so if you like day trips then Nice is ideal for that too.
