CRV – not dead yet?

My contact still says that DVC and Resorts are still "discussing". Looking to be more like a rebuild to accommodate Contemporary resort family suites (which does require an internal tear down...and asbestos removal). Possible that DVC may get a part of it. Stay tuned.

Thanks for sharing.

spiceycat and nuts, where have you seen info about family suites at CR?

there is a cast member (I think) on the resort boards - so far everything she has said has been right.

she is the one saying that it will be family suites.

I came back saying that would mean a new resort - she came back with my argument for Pop - no it is just a refurnish.... now I don't see that. Now Pop needs something done with the unfinished part. but taking a finished resort and changing that to family suites. that is not living up to Disney agreement about no new resorts.

so would Disney take a change that it stockholders would not get mad - or is this going to be a DVC resort despite these other rumors?

how long was that promise - 5 years or longer?

As I suggested before perhaps an "all studio" DVC unit.:)

With the perceived popularity of a CR DVC, think they could easily keep construction costs down with this type of unit/rehab & still sell out quickly to a loyal fan base.

Do you have a link to the dicussion about family suites at the Contemporary, I missed that one. Thanks :thumbsup2

It is possible that the Contemporary North Wing could be rehabbed into something more in the suites layout and then if DVC took it over the redo would be less. I don't see making the North Wing into suites as being a new resort.

if they are taking the building down and putting a new one there - I see it as a new resort. especially since the old building was basically hotel rooms and the new one will be suites.

that is what she implied. that the Cont was using the DVC resort plan that Tink10 - but it was for the Cont not DVC. now she didn't say this - just implied it (might may me think cast member).

the only thing that DVC generally has that the suites don't are the washer & dryer in the rooms. (some of the nicer suites do have a kitchen - right?)

but since by then it will be plain what this resort will be - that will be a long - long wait.

OK I see where you are going. No I don't think they are going to build a large addition for the Contemporary. I definitely think at some point DVC is going there, just not sure if the North Wing will be a part of DVC or remain with the resort section.

The nicer suites have a mini kitchen, I don't think any have a full kitchen.

I just came back from Disney last week and there is construction going on at the STOL area -- Don't know if it has anything to do with the permit posted on Sept 6 for the construction trailers but there is activity.

I've missed any previous posts about asbestos abatement but to me it does sound hopeful for CRV. :thumbsup2

I don't remember reading of any abatement for the South wing and am rather sure the wing wasn't fenced off like the North is. Why would the North wing need abatement if the South wing did not?

I pretty much stick to the DVC forums as opposed to the Resorts forums so I might have missed the asbestos abatement posts on that side of DIS. But I have followed most all of the posts regarding the Contemporary in this section and I can't recall seeing them here either. Hey, with the hundreds of posts I'm sure I missed a few, so thanks Sammie for the link! I will check out the thread.

I do know that most renovations require abatement to take place in order to bring a building up to code. The fencing on the North side being different is a pretty good indicator that a different type of renovation...even demolition work could be forthcoming. And if that's the case, reserve me a couple hundred points at the CRV in a few years. :yay:

I'll keep on hopeing, it will sell out quick.

Can't wait to see the price per pt. on this one :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Think Dean and I have a silent bet going on this one....right Dean?? :confused3

this from a lady just back from CR on the resort board.

I just got back from the CR on Monday. We had a tower room, Bay Lake, allllllll the way down towards the MK. Last room on the hallway. So we were perched right over the north wing. It appears to me that they are working inside of it. But that is my opinion, seems like they are spending a lot of money fixing up the inside if they are tearing it down.
I will try to post some pictures when I get them uploaded.

"Working inside of it" and "spending a lot of money fixing up the inside if they are tearing it down" are consistent with asbestos abatement prior to demolition. Any asbestos must be carefully and completely removed prior to demolition.

I'm not saying that pongoperdigirl's post is proof that the building will be demolished. I'm just saying it is not proof that the building is simply being fixed up.

I totally agree with Horace here. Depending on the size and scope of the building, and the amount of and placement of the asbestos, abatement work can take months whereas once it's complete, the demo can take literally seconds (if the building is imploded, not that that's what's going to happen at the CR).

Regardless of whether it's going to be DVC, the site photos that have been shared recently indicate that there will be new construction of some sort at the North Wing site versus the rehab that the South Wing received.

I'm not holding my breath, but I am watching carefully...and waiting. Nothing else really to do except maintain my fix with rumors and educated guesses.

After the asbestos abatement even if Disney goes in a rehabs the rooms similar to the South Wing and the rest of the resort that will not mean that DVC is not expanding there.

Here is a nice aerial photo, maybe we can come find another place to build it. I suggest the tennis courts and parking lot on the North Side, like they did BCV.

That would be an IDEAL place to build a DVC...it could be on the monorail, with MK views available and still not "ruin" (or maybe I should say "alter") the look of the Contemp. (I know some people hate the "giant toaster," but there are also many who think it should remain the same due to its history as one of the original resorts.)

Honestly, if building takes place north of the existing North Wing on the tennis courts and parking lot, it's close enough for a DVC-exclusive Tomorrowland entrance. I can't imagine an additional monorail stop, DVC'rs would be expected to trek to the Tower loading area, but I still would love to see an expansion of the WEDway, I mean TTA, for light transportation to/from the villas.

Regards

Ooooh....a Tomorrowland entrance...WOW. THAT would be awesome!!! That would definitely make the CRV a fantastic location, much like BWV an IG entrance.

It sure is fun to speculate...

Oh heck while we are dreaming, how about adding a stop on the WDW railroad between Mickey's Toontown Fair and the main station.

Aaaaaallllll aboard......... for the DVC express. :thumbsup2

I am going a bit off topic here, but has anyone read the Miceage update, and the responses over on Mouseinfo?
Miceage reports an urban loft style DVC at DLR. Mouseinfo reports moving the Monorail beam to outside of DCA, and possibly connecting the hotels. Am I wrong in thinking that both WDW and DLR might get a monorail DVC, if CRV is also true?
