Will my smaller 7 year old (over 48", but scrawny) have a problem holding herself up in the tube? Will "bumping" the bottom of the ride hurt her? Will she fall into the hole in the tube?

Good question. I have a 7 year old son who could definitely ride it. The opening in the tube is a decent size though, so I think you would be best to check it out in person, and decide if she can hold herself up. The water shoots out pretty forcefully, so I don't think it would feel too good to be dragging down through the tube. But, the uphill section is pretty short, so it might not even be a big deal.

Compared to BB, I was not as thrilled with the TL rides (especially the family raft ride at TL). How do these compare to rides at BB?

How deep is the pool area when you come out?? I have a DD6 who is starting to swim pretty good--but curious. . . .She is almost to that dolphin age of swimming--probably by the end of the summer!! TIA!!

The pool area is not deep at all. It was only waist high on me.

This was my first time at Typhoon Lagoon in 10 years, and Crush N Gusher was the only thing open for the preview. I've never been to Blizzard Beach, so I can't really compare the two water parks. My kids are finally old enough that we will probably go to one soon though.

Thanks cruisin Mike!! My daughter is ok with 4 feet and almost the 5 feet. I think that by the end of summer she will be a dolphin!! I will just have to go down and first with the DH and her behind me.

Now--if she will do it--that's another thing. . . .

Do you know if I will be allowed to take a waterproof camcorder onto these rides? I've used it on some of the other rides at Typhoon Lagoon and it would be nice to get some 'on-ride' video of Crusher 'n Gusher.

Also, the tube is made for two people. When I eventually do it with my son, I'm sure I'll put him in the front of the tube, and then can use my legs to help support him a little bit if needed. Sounds like your daughter should be fine with it.

When you're in the tube, is it complete darkness? Can you see any light or is it a blackout? If it's a blackout, how long does it last? My kids don't like complete darkness. It's not my favorite either.

Thanks for the review and the photos! I really want to check it out! For some reason whenever we go to WDW we never have time to check out the water parks even though we want to soooo bad! We'll definaltey have to make it a point now to get our butts to one of the water parks!!!

We were lucky enough to be in WDW this past weekend. Typhoon Lagoon reopened on the Sunday (after annual refurb), so we got to try out Crush 'n' Gusher on opening day! In summary, I agree with Cruisin' Mike. The ride is a lot of fun, and definitely a good addition to TL, since in general (and IMHO) BB does have the better rides (the wave pool excepted...). There was a fair sized line, but it moved pretty fast (15 mins total I would guess), and the weather on Sunday afternoon was beautiful so it was not a hardship.

The drops are quite steep and fast, but they are not particularly long (nothing remotely close to Splash Mountain, for example). Hardly enough time to leave your stomach behind... They will have you put the smaller person in front (in my case, my DD8). My daughter had no problems holding on, and she is a slim girl, but she did say that she "bottomed out" on the bottom of a couple of the dips. A little uncomfortable I think, and a lesson learned for the smaller riders - keep yourselves "raised up" just a little (not too much or the lifeguard will tell you to sit in properly - at least he did to my DD). I do not recall it being completely dark at any point in the ride - the enclosed portions are not long enough for that.
