My stubborn DH doesn't want to carry his perscription bottles (in order to defend him alittle, he does take quite a few medications plus various vitamins), he wants to combine them all in one bottle, carrying just the amount needed for trip. Has any one done this? Did you have any problems? I want him to carry his medications, not pack them with the checked luggage. Thanks!

I have heard it suggested to ask the pharamcist for the smallest bottles he has to take. I am not sure if I would want to take the risk of questions. My DH use to take about 3 meds and we always asked the dr office for samples prior to crusing. I gave our dr enough notice so he could save some if he did not have all of them when I first asked.

I always do this on vacation. I have never been asked to show my prescription bottle to anyone. As long as your DH can dinstinguish all of the pills so he knows which ones to take when, he should be fine. I am not being critical here--there are some meds that look very much like others and taking the wrong one could be detrimental. I always pack one more of each kind than I will need, just in case one falls in the bathroom sink by mistake, or your flight home gets delayed overnight, you have one more dose available.

Believe it or not but some medications while legal in our country may be illegal in other countries. You should always travel with your prescription medicine in the original containers and should take them in your carry-on just in case your checked luggage is lost. Here are some tips from the
Smart Traveller -- just scroll down to "Travelling with Medicine." HTH

Do you have large, medium and small bottles where one could fit inside the other? Kind of like the nesting dolls.

I also do this when I travel. I'm sure many people use the "pill a day" containers with the little flip up lids. I do this at home as well.

I do understand about traveling with the right container. You never know what may happen and you might need extra for an extended stay or have a medical emergency and need exact dosage and name.

I have never been asked about my prescriptions, so I wouldn't worry about how you carry them. I don't think anyplace that the Magic is going to be travelling there will be someone checking pill bottles.

DH and I each take daily medications. We've sailed the magic 3 times, and have always put them in the 'days of the week' containers, and take them in our carry-ons. We haven't encountered any problems so far.

DO NOT EVER PUT MEDICATIONS IN CHECKED LUGGAGE. Airline guidelines used to (don't know how they do it now) state inside ticket jackets to take all prescriptions in carry-ons.

Initially I thought the pill carrier with the flip up lids was a good idea. But after reading some replies, I wonder if in addition to that, you should carry some sort of list of the medications you are taking, and their dosages, should you become incapacitated in some way and medical personnel need to know.

Also, I agree with putting meds in your carry-on, and with bringing an extra dose, just in case.

Anyone taking any medication for any reason should do this for that exact reason! I work in an ER and there are many people who take medications and have no idea what or why.

I would be afraid of confusing an ED pill with my vitamin.... :rotfl2: Course if you have a verandah, joining the club would occur quickly!!! :rolleyes1

Legally speaking, you MUST carry your prescriptions in the individual bottles with the official prescription label on them.
Do some people just put them altogether or in the 7 day pill holders and not get caught? Yes. Is it a good idea? No.

But remember, you will be traveling internationally, so why take a chance.

My insurance requires I buy a 90 day supply at a time, but I kept the small bottles from my first 30 day supplies for travel. I take what I need for the trip, plus a few spares and put them in my carry-on. Only other things in my carry-on are a change of clothes, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a comb, a bottle of water, and a few small packages of snacks and a paperback book.

I think the bottom line is, too many people overpack with stuff they don't need. Can't believe some folks plan on taking 2 big suitcases....or more per person for a 7 day.

One other thing to consider - You never know what type of delays etc. can occur. It is not a good idea to take 'exactly' what you will need on vacation. What if there are major flight delays or some other type of mishap that delays a return home for several days. You do not want to be without needed prescription medications.

So leaving the legality debate aside, be sure to bring a few extra days worth of prescription medications along, just in case.

Oh this thread has made me think of the latest Bridge Jones movie. I would sure hate to be in another country with my meds and the dogs and guards jump me. LOL

I still say ask you dr for samples that will last you for the duration of your trip. Now of course it would not be prescripted with your name on them but a shor note for the dr will take care fo that.
