My Mom and I booked our cruise in September for April 3-7. In late October Mom suffered cardiac arrest and now has a pacemaker with a defibrillator. She is very scared about travelling in April. So far all of the docors have given a green light but she is becoming very nervous as the defibrillator has gone off twice since it was implanted. Has anyone else cruised (or flown) with a defibrillator? I want to ease her mind if possible. She will be using a wheelchair for the majority of the time. We did take the insurance in case we need to cancel.

If her Doctors say it is fine, their opinion is who would value as best. April is 3 months away, so give her some time to get used to the pacemaker & recover. She will become more comfortable with the pm as time goes by.

My DH also has a defibrilator and has been on 6 cruises with it. It should not be any problem. There is a Doctor on the boat. I think cruising is much easier on him than any other type vacation, nothing is that far away and if he wants to rest I can go out on the ship and still be close by. We take walkie talkies so he can always get me. When you pass through security before you get to the metal detectors tell someone in charge and they will take you off to the side and do a small pat down, nothing to be afraid of. You have to do this in airports too and you will see you are one of many that do this, you will be surprised how many other people have defibrilators and go to this other line. We are taking our granddaughter on the Wonder in Feb. and my husband is thrilled to go. Don't get me wrong he was a little leary on our first cruise but after that he has always enjoyed himself. His doctor says its great he goes just gets a little mad cause he always gains some weight. Relax I know you will have a great time. I will bet it is one time you will even forget you have a defibriator for a few great days. Best of luck

Thank you, I myself feel better about Mom traveling with the pacemaker. Hopefully as April comes closer my Mom will also.
