Cruising on Points - any upgrades?

Wer'e using a lot of points to go on the Eastern Magic cruise in October. I'm reading on the DCL boards about upgrade offers, both before for extra $, and upon arrival for free. For those DVC members that have cruised on points, have you ever been offered or received an upgrade? Thinking of asking for a special (allergy) cleaning in our cabin, and don't want to hurt our chances for an upgrade! Diana

Upgrades are very rare occurrences on the Disney Cruises. For the most part, they are sailing full ships every week so there is little chance for availability.

When the rarity does occur and an upgrade is made available, you are usually notified when you receive your cruise documents. There is no rhyme nor reason to how they occur, whether booking on cash or DVC points. Keep in mind however, that they do not happen very often. I recommend booking the room you will be comfortable with for your cruise. I would go ahead with the allergy cleaning as it will not affect upgrade possibility.

Diana, we have sailed on the Magic twice, 88 & 01 and the Wonder in 99. We also cruise other cruiselines too and I have to say that the DCL is the only one where you don't have to worry about whether or not you will get an upgrade. Category 6 are fine staterooms. I hope you opted for the balcony-it is worth it! Enjoy your cruise!

Diana, We have sailed three times on points. I have not ever read anyone using points received an upgrade. We just sailed last month in a Cat 6 room with verandah. I am spoiled now. It was so cool to sit outside with my morning cup of Java and at night with the moon glowing on the water. Can't wait to go again. Have a great trip. Yvonne

You spoke of upgrades for $$$. You can upgrade at the port for a charge - based on availability at that time. (We did this last Sept). The price was the difference between the two cabin as if I had booked them on cash that day. Since you are using points, you will not be able to do this until you arrive at port. I think that would preclude your allergy cleaning.
