Cruising during the Superbowl

Hello,

DH, DS 5 and I are booked on the Jan 25th Magic. We have known all along that the Superbowl is Jan 26th and assumed that DH and I could watch all or part in the ESPN Zone on deck 10.

However. . . . DH says that ESPN is not owned by Disney. Nor is the official Superbowl station (?CBS) owned by Disney. DH thinks it may not be shown on the ship because the broadcast is not being done by a Disney affiliate.

Has anyone ever sailed on Superbowl Sunday? What do you recall about the broadcast.

DCL has much less sports programming than they have advertised in their past promotional material... but they make special licensing arrangements to make sure the Super Bowl is available onboard.

You really are the DCL expert! Thanks for responding so quickly. DH will be much relieved as he is expecting his Bears to be in the Superbowl this year

ESPN is owned by Disney, as is ABC. You're correct that CBS is not. Actually, the only live sports you get in the ESPN Skybox are on ABC or an ESPN affiliate (ESPN, ESPN Classic, ESPN Déportes, ESPN2, etc.).

My understanding is, as Dave mentioned, that they purchase the rights to show the Super Bowl on board. They were not able to do that for the Sydney Olympics in 2000, on our first cruise. We were able to watch the baseball playoffs on the Puerto Rican FOX affiliate when we were sailing into and out of St. Thomas.

We were on the Magic this past January for the Superbowl and they did carry the game in the ESPN skybox and it was very crowded in there. They had snacks but you need to arrive early or there are no seats. My DH watched the first half in the bar and then went back to the cabin to get a beer and discovered that it was on the stateroom TV also. He finished the second half in the room so he could sit down and enjoy the game!!!!

I've seen the last two superbowls in the ESPN club.niether was planned but alot of fun.to watch the sailaway party and then get to watch the superbowl on the ship,ah that's nice.
