Cruising DCL on points

Can anyone tell me if there are still restrictions on booking onto DCL using points? (the disney dream in particular)

I know that they put restrictions on points reservations through sep 2011 because of popularity of the dream etc but has anyone tried to get a reservation for after september this year?

Just wanted to know what the response has been from MS if any?

Do check that points are available for the cruise. I just got shut out of converting a reservation to points. I was told a few months before that I had until the day payment was due to transfer it to DVC. I thought I was being proactive and finalizing my plans 6 weeks before the due date and 5 and a half months before the cruise. Unfortunately, I was told by member services that they ran out of points for the cruises I wanted. I had a couple of options too.

I ended up booking directly with DCL for cash, however, my June 2012 Fantasy sailing was available with MS had I wanted to use points.

Generally that sounds right, however if booking DCL on points during value season, it was not bad. Any other season other than value season, we would have paid cash instesd

I just booked two cruises for Oct 2011, so they do have cruises available starting in October 2011.

The DVC website has a chart for amounts needed for each cruise. While it may not make sense to use points for cruises, I have done so in the past and was hoping to do so again, but found out that DVC can run out of DCL points reservations What I like about using points for cruises is the ability to use DVC points on stays other than Disneyworld. One of these days, we'll probably try Adventures by Disney on points too. Whatever you're willing to do is what makes sense.

Several weeks ago I called and asked if there was some rule about using points to sail on the Dream and was told no by the cruise line specialist at MS. I told him I read this on the internet, and he said no. So I booked the Dream for 12/11. I was happy about that.
