Hello! I am new to this forum. Found it and LOVE it! We are booked on the Magic for 2/10 thru 2/17. DH broke leg in January and we were hoping that he would be able to walk on it by cruise time - but no luck. He is now in an "aircast" and will have crutches.

We are planning on doing the Conch Republic Train Tour in Key West and the Grand Cayman Island Tour.

Any suggestions or comments for "cruising on crutches?"

Thanks!

That is one slow healing bone ;) 13 months for it to heal???? I think you meant 4/10 - 4/17 *hehehe

All I can say is Bummer!! But a cruise with a broken leg is better than no cruise at all!!!

As far as excursions go, I'd stick to land. WHen you get to Cozumel, go to Carlos and Charlies - after a few shots, he'll forget about having a cast (and will be feeling no pain:teeth: ). Have a great trip.

You got questions, we got answers.

Well, I did my last DCL cruise (7 day Eastern) with one leg in a walking cast and crutches. Not the greatest thing in the world, but I managed fairly well. For one thing, it was a great topic for conversation. I did take a bus tour in St. Martin, and it was OK. I don't think you should have a problem with the Conch train in Old Key West. The worst part was CC. We got one of those wheelchairs with the big pontoon wheels and my husband used that to move me around the beach. I did sit in a chair on the beach, but it was really hot and it was horrible to not be able to go in the water and cool off. Did have a squirt bottle which helped some.

The most important thing I can mention is that if you are tendering in to some island (can't remember the Western itinerary), make sure that the tender you take back to the ship goes to the entrance where you got off. We got on a tender that took us to an entrance to the boat where I had to walk up a deck or two on this tiny little metal ladder. I was terrified. It was really hard with my heavy cast. We should have taken the boat we were on back to shore and changed to a different tender. Great thought, but too late. I'm suprised they don't tell people with disabilities to take a more suitable tender where you can just walk on to the ship. You will have a good time, tho. It was actually kind of fun being the center of attention at times. Everyone felt so sorry for me. By the way, there was also a young girl who cruised with us who had a cast and crutches. We had a lot in common.

Thanks! Yes...I meant 4/10 thru 4/17.

I figure nothing a little Pina Colada can't fix! This is great information!

So sorry about your leg. We'll see you on the 4/10 Easter Magic Western cruise. It sure is getting close! There is a list on the cruise meets board of DIS passengers if you are interested.
