Cruisin' as a Semi-Old Couple?

We are not big drinkers but enjoy going to the after hours clubs for entertainment. They have trivia games and other activities going on there or someone singing/playing the piano. We never felt like we had to order a drink to be sitting there. The servers would come around and ask but if we didn't need anything they would chat for a bit then leave us alone. We're over 50 and totally enjoy disney cruises.

DH and I are both 35ish, childfree but "quiet people". We love to get up early and go to be early, we don't like going out in bars... We love DCL.

When we cruise, we like to take advantage of the adults only sections on the ship (Quiet Cove, Cove Café, Palo --dinner & brunch-- and Remy) and at Castaway Cay, we spend 99% of our time at Serenity Bay which is the adult only beach. We always ask to be seated alone at the restaurant.

At the port of calls, I would say most excursions are suited for adults.

On the cruiseship, we have appreciated the mixology class and From stem to stern wine tasting which was really interesting. We also appreciated The Golden Mickeys (show) which suited a bit more to us as adults than the other shows.

We also really enjoyed the movie theater and found that there was a good selection of Disney Movies (Like Antman, Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur... Which in my opinion, can be appreciated a lot by adults).

Also, although we did not spend much time on it, we appreciated having a verandah. It a very nice way to relax and stay away from the action. When the cruiseship leaves PC, we do not go to the Sailaway Party, we look around and try to locate/watch dolphins swimming behind the ship.

I think your going to find that there are many many semi and fully old farts cruising. We have a great time , met lots of folks and enjoy dinning and a drink here and there. My wife and I love watching the kids met the charaters and for that matter we sometimes have photos taken of us with the characters.

Have a great cruise!

DH and I are around your age and LOVE sailing with DCL. Our kids are adults, so we travel without them most of the time. During our last cruise we met 2 couples that were in their 60 and 70s who both mentioned that they were talked into going on a Disney cruise with their adult kids and grandchildren and loved it so much that Disney is the only ship they sail on now even without grandkids. These 2 couple didn't know each other and were seasoned cruisers with other cruise lines.

On the family-friendly excursions DCL often has two tour groups -- a separate bus for adults and another bus for families.

Wife and I also fit into the semi-old category, have done several DCL cruises without our son and have another one coming up later this year. We never have a problem finding things to keep us busy. Plenty of places to go without kids if you don't want them under your feet, and enough entertainment/venues to sign up for some at an additional cost in the bars like the mixology, beer and various liquor classes.

My husband (58) and I (51) have taken 7 Disney cruises---4 with kids and 3 without. As previous posters have shared we have had fantastic trips. One of our favorite things to do is skip the MDR dinner a few nights, order room service and swim or sit on deck when everyone else is busy with dining/shows. Have a fantastic trip!

Im mid 50s hubby is early 70s. We have cruised 3 times. So long as you like the Disney atmosphere and want to be pampered you will love it. Go and enjoy. There is plenty to see and do.

I just celebrated the big 5-0 last year on the Fantasy and it is the second time dh (who is 53) and I cruised without our son (who is an adult now anyway). (it was our 7th DCL sailing total). We are not big drinkers, don't care for a casino, and really like the family atmosphere of DCL. I happen to love all things Disney, so that helps. :) We love to hang out on our veranda, attend the cooking demonstrations, attend the shows, go on the adult only excursions (Disney has several available per port that are adult only departures), and relax up on the adult only deck. I also like to check out the shops and see what merchandise they have. Honestly, we don't spend a lot of time in the atrium or places where a lot of people hang out, but we do people watch from higher up and watch the little ones interact with the characters. I am always too shy to interact with the characters, but I know some adults do.

Didn't read all the comments, but since when is mid 50's old? ;) I think you guys are the perfect age to enjoy the exclusive adult areas on board the Disney ships. If you like the Disney brand, I think you'll have a great time! We are in our 30's with kids, but that's the thing about Disney. Something for everyone!

Well, I said we were only SEMI-old!!! (My knees remind me quite often :D) We do love the Disney brand and as my signature shows, we are DVC members and go to Disney a couple of times each year. Looking forward to our cruise. Many great comments have already been given, hope they keep coming.

Mid 50's here, and my wife and I cruised on the Disney Magic in 2012 and the Disney Dream in 2014 and will sail on the Disney Magic again in April 2016. After comparing the Magic to the Dream we almost like the Magic better. Smaller boat, less people but we never had a problem finding a place where there were no kids on the Dream. Castaway Cay was less busy when we were on the Magic. There is always something for us to do on the boat. I did like the Aquaduck on the Dream but there was always a line, only did it twice. I am sure there will be a line for the Aquadunk but we will give it a try. Disney Cruise line is the best. Enjoy your cruise!

My in-laws have done a B2B, a Panama Canal, and the Caribbean East and West. Of those 5 only 2 were with us! They love the ability to do something, or nothing. They end up usually with other fun adults at dinner and meet others along the way if they don't find some in the pre-cruise meet up threads. They have another booked for September. I think they have a problem....
