I just returned from a 3 night cruise on the Disney Dream. We had a great time. I went with my friend Peggy & her daughter Melanie. Peg was with me on the maiden voyage of the Dream. This was Melanie's first cruise ever.
I have to say, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED in the food service. Both Peggy & Melanie have gluten allergy. If we hadn't experienced good service on the 2 previous cruises, I wouldn't be so upset figuring they still have some work to do on it. BUT, this was horrendous. They kept bringing frozen gluten free breads-they don't bake them on board just order the frozen ones. You'd think after the first time sending them back to be thawed, that they'd get it. They didn't. The food, when we got it was fine, but the other family at our table was served main course AND desert before we even got the main courses. Not so bad you'd think, BUT they ALSO dietary restrictions & special order meals. Very bad form not to serve everyone at once. Especially as Peggy had informed them of the gluten allergy when she booked and they had preordered their meals.
We had less difficuly at breakfast and lunch then we did with our main servers at dinner.
Oh, one other pet peeve. When are they going to change the shows????? They are still showing the same ones that they showed on the maiden voyage. Now I love seeing the shows, but enough already, put some new ones in place. There's only so many times one needs to see Golden Mickey Villans, & Dream. It's time to change them don't you agree?

I was on the cruise before yours! Our dining servers were awesome, but we didn't have any dietary issues other than that I don't eat seafood. I'm surprised they weren't prepared for your friend. Gluten free is so common now. Sorry it was so disappointing. :worried: Did you pre-pay your tips, I would have gone to Guest Services and adjusted them with that kind of service.

I loved the shows, but it was my first cruise so I never saw them. Believe was my favorite. :goodvibes

We didn't give tham anything extra as is my custom. As I said, we haven't had anything like that happen on the 2 cruises we did on that ship before. Even the maiden voyage, which I didn't inform of the allergy did a better job of service. It wasn't the food, it was the service. When we got the food it was excellent, the problem was the wait & the staff & for some reason they couldn't figure out that the bread had to been defrosted. Unbelievable.
Believe is my favorite too.

We had difficulties on our 7-night podcast cruise on the Fantasy as well. Service was extremely slow and our table was always the last one out of the dining room almost every night.

On Friday night, I though it'd be fun to order "challah" bread for the group at our table. I'd done this on other cruise lines like Holland America and Royal Caribbean and we were served freshly baked bread made especially for us. Not so on the Fantasy. Here, we got pre-packaged bread and it was disappointing.

I agree that Golden Mickey's needs to be changed. The Villains show was new to me. Believe is one of those shows that will be around for a LONG time.

We cruised out of NYC with Disney last August. I am gluten free as well as having other food allergies. I also let Disney know ahead of time of my dietary requirements. My experience was very similar to your friend's. They were unprepared upon embarkation and it took an hour and a half to find a frozen macaroni and cheese for me to have for lunch. I could not dine at ANY of the counter service locations, only in the dining rooms. My food took forever to arrive to our table even though it was preordered. I got sick twice from food I was told would be safe. There were no room service options. I had packed a suitcase full of snacks and breakfast items, thank goodness! Because they do such an outstanding job at the Parks we had high expectations for the ship. We were very disappointed in the food. I DO have to say that we had a great time on the cruise just the same as we traveled with a fantastic group of people who we loved spending time with. I don't think we will be cruising again though. It's so expensive and when you struggle to eat and have to bring your own stuff it kind of defeats the purpose of all inclusive.

Hi Diana!
sorry to hear about your experience on the Dream!
that's really interesting that you had a much better experience at breakfast and lunch than at dinner.

Where did you eat breakfast and lunch?

I think we wouldn't have been so distressed if this was the 1st time Peggy had been on the Dream, but she sailed with me on the maiden voyage and on another one, Dec 2011. She didn't have any problem either of those cruises. she didn't get inappropriate food, when she got the food, it was fine. But the wait was terrible AND the gluten free bread issue was unreal. Who doesn't understand that you don;t serve FROZEN bread????? I done't get it.

has she been on allure of the seas?
i've heard they have a completely separate kitchen where they prepare the gluten free food and that it's quite good.

The Dream has a separate kitchen to prepare all the meals for allergy restricted diets, at least that is what we were told. I wouldn't be as distressed if this had happened on the maiden voyage cruise or the one we went on in DEc of the same year. But this is the 3rd cruise on the Dream. Peggy did not have any difficulty with her meals on either of the other trips, just this one!!!
