Cruise with developer points question

I have a question about booking a cruise using developer points. I have read here that you can book a cruise using developer points further out than the 7 month window. My question is, if you book a cruise, does the cruise have to be taken before your developer year is up? For that matter, how does that work with regular points? Thinking about that, you can probably bank and borrow to make that work. But does anyone know about how the developer points work with the timing of a cruise?

Thanks for any info that you can give me!

There is no longer a window time frame for booking a cruise. The minute the point chart is released you can book. I believe that your developer points behave like any other points. The points must be available at the time of the cruise, not at the time of booking. Hope that makes sense.

Here is my understanding on Developer Points. They have to be used within one year of the starting of your contract (NOT use year). So, my contract was begun on 12/4/07, with a use year of October. I have to use my developer points by 12/4/08, or I lose them. They cannot be banked or borrowed. I can't remember all the booking requirements with developer points, except they cannot be booked further than 7 mo out for any of the DVC resorts as the developer points are not attached to a home resort.

Hope this helps.

We did exactly what you are asking about last year. We bought DVC on our October cruise and booked the 9/1/08 5-day cruise using our developer points and some of our 2007 points (June use year), which we had to bank to use against the cruise points. Then, last month, my DH decided we needed to take a little WDW trip this February, so we had to borrow from our 2008 points because you can't unbank points.

But, it's so much fun to plan (and then go on) these wonderful vacations .
