Hi Everyone, I heard from someone that there was going to be a Disney Cruise to Alaska in the future. Have any of you heard that? THANKS! :Pinkbounc

Right now, it's just a vicious ;) rumor (more likely wishful thinking). There have been several threads on this topic over the past few weeks, since DCL sent out their last round of surveys (which they've been sending out for 3+ years).

I think StuartMI said that in 2013 one of the then 20 DCL ships will be sailing to Alaska, but I think it will be way to :cold:

OK, I was joking since this subject comes up at least once a day.. No DCL cruise is currently planned to sail to Alaska. Many Disers would jump on that faster than the Repo Cruises.....

If they did sail to Alaska, would the existing ships be able to do the job, or would new ships (or major additions of some sort) be needed?

I think that cruising to Alaska might be a good way to use a ship August - October.

october would be way too cold up north to be cruisin! you would need a coat inside and out then! :cold:

When we cruised in 2002 a DCL CM told us they were serioulsy considering an Alaska route. Just not sure when!

I guess they COULD do Alaska with the current ships, but not comfortably.
Most ships that cruise to Alaska have retractable roofs over the top deck and pools. The Magic and Wonder don't have retractable roofs.

We cruised to Alaska on HAL's Amsterdam in Summer 2002 (before our Magic cruise). We had record heat in Juneau.....75 degrees!!! So with the wind on a moving ship, the retractable roof makes things much more comfortable.

Alaska cruise "season" is early May to mid-September.

it would need a indoor pool, it is way to cool to swim outside. i sailed to alaska on the princess sapphire cruise ship...i never saw anyone outside in the pool, everyone was inside. i did use the spa outside while we sailed through tracy arm. What a sight!

oh shoot sorry( this is jazstar87) i am on sister's sn

The heated outdoor pool on our cruise on the Amsterdam was great, we have a wonderful photo of us in the pool, with steam rising and the Hubbard Glacier in the background.

StuartMi is organizing the DISmeet for that cruise. Send him a PM.... :teeth: :rotfl:
