mmmm...I was checking on line for DCL and just checking out dates for August cruises about a month ago and just know I was looking at the rates and they have gone up ($568 catagory 6) I didn't know that the rates can go up like that. So I guess I better book my trip before rates go up any further....I was just wondering if this is common?? gina

Yes, the more cabins that get booked the more prices go up. The best thing to do (if you can swing the deposit) is to reserve as far in advance as you can. Most categories (I think it's 12-4) are fully refundable until 75 days before the cruise date and the deposit can be transfered if you change a date (but the price is subject to change).

It's all about supply and demand.

On the more popular sailing dates/times of the year, the rates can go up pretty quickly. When the reservations for the repositioning cruises to/from California opened up, the rates were going up by the hour, and that was over a year before the sailings. On DCL, it's best to book as early as you can.

We actually enjoy checking the price as the cruise gets closer to see how much money we saved by booking early. :)

Not only has my March cruise gone up about $1400 since I booked it in June, but when I tried today to see what the current rate would be, I can't even book a room for 4 people! So if I had waited until now, I wouldn't be going at all....

Yes it's common for rates to go up. DCL raises the prices as the ships are filled up. The cheapest rates (non "special" rates like Florida resident) are the ones available on the first day that you can book a room for the the sailing you want.

When DCL announced the Panama Canal and West Coast Cruises - you could watch the PC repo prices raise hourly!!

Definitely book now. Ours has went up a LOT since I originally booked. I nearly fainted when I checked the "now" price!

So, this is interesting to me. I am looking at the rates for October 2007, but will not actually go until October 2008. Can anyone give me an idea on the 10/2007 rates that I see now, if they are higher than when they were first released or if the price I see now is what I can plan on paying for 2008 (minor increases expected of course, just like the annual hotel room rate hikes)?

Does that make any sense? It's hard to word things the way you want them sometimes when it's not in person.

Yep, that makes sense, but it's very hard to determine how the current rates are in comparison to the first people booking the cruise that you want.

"October 2007" is too generic. The prices for each cruise are independent of the other cruises in the same month. An obvious example would be if you said November 2007 - the first and second weeks would be relativly inexpensive (not a high demand period and probably not highly booked yet) but Thanksgiving week would be more expensive - just by DCL's pricing and that Thanksgiving week sailings are probably already heavily booked for 2007.

My gut feeling is that the rates you are seeing for October 2007 have not gone up a lot at this time - but who really knows  (to paraphrase an old commercial "Only DCL knows for sure".

Good luck in your quest for rate comparisons!!

Thank you for your opinion, that is what I was wondering. I guess more specifically it would be for October 14th 4 day, or 18th 3 day. I'm sure it's way to vague to answer, but I would be curious.

Thank you!!

You should not have to "wonder" for long, they are saying the Wonder 3 and 4 day cruises for 2008 will be out in the next week or two......watch here, the day they are released this board will be going nutty!!

Look carefully before booking. The rates do not go up across the board, rather based on each category. Sometimes I have been able to book a client for a higher category for less money. It's all about the numbers!

I've never heard that. I've always heard that the rates on Disney go up. But then I've only been around Cruising people for a year now...

Get this!! I checked my cruise that departs in about 2 weeks, and it is lower than what I paid. (The Cat. 9 is going for what I paid for Cat. 11 - no Cat. 11 left)
I had priced it separately off the Disney web site before I booked it as a Land/Sea. There was a slight savings at the time to do the package actually, but as everyone has said -- book separately! That way you can take advantage of Land stay discounts or Sea discounts that come along after you book.
Anyone want a steal? Come along on the Nov. 12th Wonder 4 night!

Let me explain further...
the rates do go up but each category goes up on it's own based on percentage booked. The lower categories are the best example of this. In th 07-08 brochure for a 4 night cruise the cat. 11 starts at $449, while the cat. 10 starts at $479. With such a small difference ($30) if the cat. 11 are almost sold out and very few cat. 10's have been booked, the category 11 price while have gone up. In this instance, you may find the 10 to be close to the original rate, making them cheaper then the 11.

:furious: Boy it has been driving me crazy!! Thanks for explaining this to me. I couldn't believe the rates couldn't have gone up that fast in two weeks. I told my husband that if we are going to book we should book know. Correct? gina

:furious: Wow, thanks for helping me out here. I have been going crazy about this. I didn't think that the rates could have gone up so quickly like in two weeks. I told hubby that if we are going to do this we should book it know....Correct? thanks again Gina

Gina -

As long as you don't book air or buy insurance (which you can add later), the deposit is 100% refundable. It will however, lock in your rate, which as you can see can be important. Good luck

Happy travels
