Cruise question from a UK perspective...

Hi all

I have booked our cruise through jetlife, along with the rest of our holiday - we opted for the Cat 12 which was by far the cheapest option - however, looking at the Disneycruise site and the prices there you are only talking an extra $200 for a deluxe outside cabin! LOADS cheaper than the jetlife brochure!

Question - can we pay for an upgrade at the port???

If they have staterooms available you can upgrade at the port - in fact, these are usually a very good deal if you can!

Basically you check in as normal, then at the end of the desks there is one where you can check for upgrades and how much. I did this in October - I upgraded from a Cat 6 to a Cat 4 for only $398 which was much cheaper that we would have paid in advance for that sailing (Halloween, 7 day on the Magic - in fact we were really surprised they had any staterooms as it's usually one of their more popular sailings).

The obvious hanger is <i>if</i> there are any staterooms available on the day - as these ships do sometimes sell out.

To give you an idea about how successful you might be on getting one at the port you could check the Disney site a couple of weeks before departure - putting only 2 adults in the mock booking - if staterooms still come up at that point with multiple room numbers available (rather than GTY status) then you could be in luck on the day

Pooky, I was looking on one site the other day and it said our date was full. I was hoping for an upgrade, we have outside deck 7 and the boys would like a veranda.
Sometimes you may find you have been upgraded so that they can sell the cheaper cabins, but that is normally when they are well below capacity.
The documents will be through soon so we will know for definate then.

The way I found out that they were cheaper was to do a mock booking! Had verandah rooms availble too! Fingers crossed

I guess we need to get to the port quite early then??

The <b>most</b> important thing you have to remember when checking availability with mock bookings on DCL's website is to enter it as 2 adults. Quite often the kids clubs will fill up before the ship technically does (especially when the kids are out of school) and they will then close reservations to anyone with kids in their party. So, on many an occasion you will see a ship showing full for a family, but tons of availability for adults only. As you are <i>already</i> booked on the cruise with your kids, it's not an issue because you'll just just swapping staterooms at the port.

Oh and yes, you'd need to get to the Port at opening (10.30) for the best chance of upgrading.

Hi Pooky, Well Im just over the bridge from you in a very wet cornwall.
I was going to suggest having a look at booking with one of the american companies like we did but I see you are off in 10 DAYS .
Im sure you are going to have a ball wherever you are it sure beats being inthis weather even if we do all live a lovely part of the country.
