I've got a planned long weekend with my DD (5) in December for WDW. We're going to stay at the Poly for 4 nights. my only man mission for the trip was to do the the Very Merry Christmas party.

Now i'm debating about extending the trip and doing the cruise. So i'm wondering what everyone things. How's the cruise? I'm a single mom with my 1 daughter. Any single parents go on the cruise?

I've never done the new Disney Cruise, but many many years ago my family did the Big Red Boat which was Disney at the time. We've since been on 16 cruises as a family. I would say do it, especially if your daughter likes making new friends and day camp. My brother and I loved cruising when we were younger because we could have our own vacation in the kids clubs and make new friends. I'm still in touch with several of the friends I made over the years and I'm 22. We always met up with family for meals, shows, pool time, and on the islands. But mom and dad got to relax and do grown up things, while my brother and I got to party. Most the time mom and dad even split up to do things separately - Dad liked to wander the ship, mom sun bathed or booked time in the spa.

I forgot to add: Cruising is an amazing experience on it's own and I bet it's even more amazing when Disney is involved. Watching sunsets at sea, seeing the crystal clear water's of the caribbean, deck parties, and so much more. Find out when the Travel channel is playing it's special on the Disney Cruise Line and watch it with your daughter. I doubt you'll be able to resist going.

to be honest with you... it's all the travel channels fault. dd and i went in jan for a week. she has been DYING to go back and i've never been at christmass. so i thought...ok a little long weekend would be fun. THEN we saw the cruise on the travel channel and i'm like....hmmmmm that could REALLY be fun!!

i've only ever been on 1 cruise. it was 11 years ago and it was my honeymoon. my DH and I didn't spend much time relaxing on the cruise... we were the kind of people who ran from my thing to another on vacation.

but the idea of a more relaxing - laying by the pool kind of trip is starting to appeal to me more.

i just keep going back and forth on it. i'm wondering if the dates will work because i really want to make sure we get the Very Merry Christmas party in too

You sound a lot like me. The kids program ended when I turned 18. Even the teen program was more come to the activities you want to, otherwise, whatever. I don't really like sitting in the sun and relaxing by the pool for long periods of time. Instead I go to all the shows and things going on. Trust me, they'll be so many activities, sitting by the pool may not be an option. I even watched the bingo games because often times they were funny. I learned to line dance one year, and to swing dance another. I watched knobby knee contests, and hairy chest contests. My favorite has and will always be the newly wed game because the answers are just hilarious. There was even trivia. I bet you and DD would have a wonderful time and create wonderful memories.

I was a single mom up until last year and DD and I cruised just the 2 of us when she was 5, 6, and 7. DCL is the perfect vacation for a single parent. We have so much fun together. DD never went to the kids clubs, but most kids do and love it. The cruise is so relaxing and fun. If you can do it, you should try it at least once. Most people get hooked on cruising after their first cruise.

I am a single mom of two DDs and we will be going on our first cruise this December. We are doing the 4 day land/3 day sea the week after Thanksgiving. We went on our first Disney vacation in October '06 and loved it but I've always wanted to see Disney World at Christmas time. So we will be attending MVMCP one night and spending the other 3 days in the park prior to going off on our very first cruise. I think a Disney cruise is the way to go and I couldn't help but think that when we went to Disney World, it was the easiest vacation I've ever done as a single mom!! Good luck with whatever you decide and happy planning!! :D
