We have 2 cabins with three people each that we booked using points-can anyone tell me what the penalty would be if we undid one of the cabins and put one of the kids (with some of the points) in our other cabin and then booked a cabin for two with cash? I can get a pretty good cash rate on one cabin and this would give us back some points for another WDW trip. Thanks!

I rearranged some last year and it kinda stunk. I had to pay the $95 for changing the ressie, then the points don't come back to DVC points, they stay as Reservation Points...basically good on future DCL or WDW resorts (ie: Carribean Beach).

I always just call the DVC people and they are so gracious at explaining it all to me. I never have had a bad experience and they seem to also run the figures too. It helps if you have your internet at the DVC and WDW sites to compare prices instantly and have a calculator handy too.

Good luck!!

Reservation points can not be banked. So you have to use them is the use year they were booked. We had vacation booked at the DLH this last November, but about a month after we booked the hotel, we added on to VGC. We decided to stay with our orignal reservation, because we knew we were not going again before the use year was up and did not want to lose our pts that were now reservation points.

This maybe true if you are booked at DVC resorts and cancel 30 days before your vacation. But once you convert points to reservation points at anything but DVC, i.e The Disney Collection, you are looking a a different set of rules and cancellation policies.

Don't do it!

As others have already posted, the returned points will expire at the end of your use year (can't be banked) and cannot be used to make a reservation at a DVC resort or for a trade via RCI.

Take a look at the point charts for the WDW resorts in the Disney Collection. It takes more points to stay in a smaller, regular resort room than it does to stay in a 1 (and sometimes a 2) bedroom DVC resort. Plus you will have to pay another $95 fee to make the non-DVC reservation.

IMO, you would be wasting both your cash and your points to make the change now.

Enjoy your cruise.
