were set to sail in just 2 months--

my mm was just put in hospice are--they assured us at the assisted living this doesnt mean shes dying any time soon--or within the 6 months which is what I always thought when I heard hospice

anyways Im not sure if I could enjoy myself on the cruise thinking of my mom--she does have dementia--and has fallen twice

both times splitting her head and needing staples

we get travel insurance with our CC but was wondering if anyone would know if this would be enough of a reason to cancel

I really dont want to cancel last minute--like I said Im not sure I would really enjoy it--

anyone ever have to use insurance with something like this

thanks all

So sorry!
whether or not your cc insurance will cover a cancellation really depends on what are the terms of the coverage. Plans vary widely. You’ll need to contact your CC company and request the documentation for the insurance.

thanks for the hug--its times like this a hug can make a big differnce Im planning on calling tomorrow but just curious if anyone had any thoughts on this

I agree you really need to get documentation of what specifically is covered. Hopefully your CC isn't one of the ones that has a lot of "not covered" situations listed.

I’m very sorry to hear about your Mom. Sending a big hug your way.

My own Mom had dementia and passed away a few months ago. With our policy, (we were cruising within a month) entering hospice indicated a change in condition and so we would have had to cancel as soon as it happened to be reimbursed our money paid for the cruise.

As said above though, you would have to contact the insurance company and see what their specific policy is. They are all different. They may consider her as having pre-existing conditions.

It’s a tough situation for you for sure. We were always on edge when we travelled as we worried something would happen while we were away. However, it is hard to put your life on hold as you have no way of knowing someone else’s life timeline.

Good luck with everything. Give your Mom a hug for me 💕

Give Disney a call and see if they will work with you on rescheduling out a year. I won't go into details but I know if a friend they worked with even though they "shouldn't have" technically by their own rules. It's worth asking.

My mother was in hospice care in 2010 when we were planning our first Med cruise. I did worry while we were away but we had talked before we left and my mother did not want us to cancel our trip and would have been more upset if we had done so. So we made sure that the insurance we purchased covered us if she passed away - we would have been able to either cancel our trip if she passed away at or very near the point of departure or we could have flown back if it occurred during our trip and certain costs would have been covered (e.g., additional costs of flights back home, non-refundable costs such as pro-rated cruise costs, etc.). This is actually what we get for each trip but you have to check out the terms and pricing.

Having been through it with grandparents hospice doesn't necessarily mean the end is near. The nursing home pushed to put my grandma on it at one point because something about her care qualified, but we refused because we were paying for her to get the care she needed and were afraid the staff would not do as much knowing hospice would take care of it.

The insurance we bought for our upcoming trip included something that I read to mean if something happened with my parents and I needed to be here for them it was covered. I forget the exact wording. That's definitely specific to your policy to check out.

OP, I am sorry. Ive been in that situation and its always a hard choice.

In a case like this what happens to the insurance? Does it typically follow to the rebooked trip? Ive never thought about this before and am curious.
