It’s been 3 years since we have been on DCL and now my DS11 will have a cellphone with him. We have one main account on the DCL app. Do I need a different account for us to use the onboard messaging on the app? I remember my husband and I using it but I don’t recall if we had separate accounts….Thank you in advance for your tips!

You can create an 'on the boat' only account when you connect to the DCL wifi. That's what my husband did 2 weeks ago.

No, you will not need separate accounts. You basically register the phone to whoever will be doing the chatting. So he will just sign up with his information. What is nice is you also get a code so he can use that to give to kids he meets and wants to chat with.

The DCL app works differently before the cruise and during the cruise. Before the cruise, login requires a Disney account and the app shows what activities you have booked and what you can book.

Once you are onboard (or possibly in the cruise terminal) the app changes to show what is happening on the ship. Login simply requires a name, birthdate, and cabin number. It is possible an 11 year old will need permission from an adult in the room — I can’t remember, but if that is necessary, you will get a message that you just need to approve.
