CRT Question

Hi, April will be our 9th trip to Disney and 3rd visit to CRT. I made my reservations earlier in the week and when I was doing my banking today, I noticed a $433 charge on my account. I called and they said that they charge you when you make your reservations and credit you the day of, if you're using the dining plan.
I've reserved there 2 other times before and have NEVER been pre-charged. I have used my card to "hold" my reservation, along with a couple other ressies, but this is the only one that charged me.
Is this something new? I can't afford to be out $433 until April. Even if I get the money back then, I'm still out $433 until then. Anyone else have this happen? Like I said, we've reserved there 2 other times in the past and I've only used my card to "hold"; nothing was ever charged. I will be using the dining plan, so I don't want to be "pre-charged" anything. I've already paid for my dining plan, now I'm paying AGAIN for a meal.

Thanks!

I don't believe that is the practice IF you are on the DDP. Did you make your reservations online? If so, that could be why.

Thank you for your replies. I called 4 times last week to get all the reservations and days we wanted. I'm so disappointed I have to cancel :sad1:
I'm not sure I like this policy, LOL.
UGH, now I have to try to find something to take it's place for my family. Any suggestions?

Thank you !

Ok, So I called back and this time they told me they do not charge if I'm on the dining plan. So I was nervous that I couldn't get my table for 10 back, but there was an even better time slot available than I had before.

Thanks to all your help! Bottom line, if you're on the dining plan, the are NOT supposed to charge your card at time of reservation.

Thank you again!:thumbsup2

We're using the DDP for our upcoming trip and I was NOT charged for CRT when I made my ressie. I did have to provide a CC guarantee, but the card was not charged. I booked online and made sure to link my resort reservation to the dining page prior to booking. I would call and get the charged reversed instead of cancelling. Good luck!

I keep hearing people say that as long as you link it to your resort reservation, you will not be charged. This is not true from my experience and from many others. I booked CRT exactly 90 days out on September 1st of this year and linked it to my resort reservation, and our credit card was charged the full amount. By the time I figured it out, I did not dare cancel and try to rebook. Now we are just stuck because there is no way to take it out without cancelling and rebooking.

If you don't want your cc charged the full amount, I would advise you to call directly for CRT.

That is terrible. You would think Disney could rectify the mistake without having to cancel the reservation and rebook!

I booked online October 28th beause I couldn't stand the thought of repeating my horrible October 27th experience of trying to get through to dining for 2 hours, and then a hold time of 30+ minutes once I managed to get through. I guess I lucked out, since I was not charged anything to book CRT.

If some folks are still experiencing this bug, I would definitely call to book instead of booking online.

I made my reservations for CRT in the beginning of September for our December trip. I did it online. I am on the dining plan and linked our reservation at the beginning of doing all my ADRs. I actually wanted to pay OOP for CRT and use my dining credits for other restaurants. There was no option to do this though when I made my ressie. I had to give a credit card guarantee, but the card was not charged. I guess I can tell them when I get there that I want to pay OOP instead of using my credits.

When we went in May we were going to do the DDP but were still precharged for our CRT ressie. When we added the DDP to our stay member services credited my account back.We are not doing ddp next trip and I don't want to prepay so no CRT this time.I can understand a cc guarentee to prevent noshows, etc but do not agree w/prepaying.

Well if you didn't have the dining plan added at that time, that's why you would have been charged the full amount. You can't just say "I'm going to do the dining plan" and not get charged in advance - if you had already added it before making the reservation, you would not have been (or should not have been) charged.

(None of which is related to whether anyone disagrees or disagrees with prepaying, in general).

We are on the DDP and have a reservation for CRT on 11/29 and our credit card WAS charged. I was no happy about this but thought it was the process. I am calling WDW today to find out why this happened.

^^^ If you cancel with CRT and wish to have a princess dining experience, I would recommend Restaurant Arkeshus in Epcot's Norway. You'll see Cinderella, Belle, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Snow White, and either Ariel or Jasmine. When we went there it was Ariel, but my friend went the week after and saw Jasmine instead. It was a great dining experience.

I would speculate that the precharging is an attempt to limit people making multiple reservations.
